The following is an ‘Ask The Mayor’ question submitted to TLS, and the Mayor’s response. Email your questions for the Mayor to [email protected].
Question:
I live near the public school on 7th and Clifton. I was wondering why it has recently been closed (locked) on weekends. Is there a reason for this? My children really have no other place to play. It would be greatly appreciated if it would be open.
Thanks!
Response from Mayor Coles:
Hi Yechiel,
We will ask the Board of Ed to allow access on weekends.

It is supposed to be open for the community’s use during all non-school hours, not just weekends. We pay taxes and this is part of the services that it’s for.
Speaking of Parks I see that you got rid of the one on 4th and the tracks. The town is going to put something on Vine St. so all the kids near FoodEx can have somewhere to play.
I remember that when the park was refurbished, and it cost a lot to do it, the BOE promised that it will be made available to the public for use when school is closed. (And, if I recall correctly, they used township recreation money to fund the park) So they are not doing anyone favors by opening it. The public paid for it and should be able to use it!
What’s with the promised park by prospect/cross st?
i know this a bit outside the box…
but if we would have an indoor basketball court park for the teens in this town, it would solve a lot of the boredom
very constructive….
