Question:
Mr Mayor, First, thank you for being open to questions and answering them! Now that reconfiguration of the jug handle on the north side of Route 70 West and New Hampshire Ave has been completed and seemingly has been a success, I wonder about 2 things; the redirection from the jug handle to Chestnut and the traffic light to turn onto New Hampshire South has a no turn on red sign. Perhaps the State could change it to between 7am and 7pm? When the traffic dies down and before it starts back up in the morning, time stands still and no other car in sight!
#2; is there more from the state or county to correct the southbound New Hampshire traffic congestion across the Highway? It seems to have moved the traffic south to merge to a single lane, also blocking traffic on the jug handle on that side turning both ways out of the jug handle, especially in the afternoon and evening rush hour
Thanks again for your service and attention to this

Response from Mayor Coles:
Hi Tom
These questions are one of my favorite things about being mayor!
I will ask our engineers to run this by the county and state to see if they are amenable to it.
Thanks for writing
Ray
Question:
Thank you so much for finally getting the light activated. However (yes a complaint Emoji) its to short for those coming from Chateau/Broadway. Plus its hard to turn left onto Rt 9 due to traffic coming the other way. I dont think a left turn arrow would help as there is no place to put in a dedicated left turn lane. I think the best solution would be to have it where the light is green from Chateau Dr and red from Broadway, and then the reverse. This way more cars should be able to go out. And speaking of that intersection, when they moved Chateau Dr to align it with Broadway, they left it very bumpy. Are there plans to smooth it out?
Thanks so much!
Response from Mayor Coles:
Good morning
It is not unusual for the timing on new lights to need adjustment. I will ask our engineers to contact the state and ask them to make some changes. We will also see how soon they can address the paving issues.
Thanks
Ray
Question:
Hi,
Thank you so much for taking the time to address our concerns. Over the years I’ve tried different avenues to help with this and I’m hoping you can be of assistance.
I live across the street from the Waldorf basin in the Hearthstone neighborhood.
Last year, the township spent much time, effort and money to plow the basin to get rid of mosquitos and make the water flow more efficiently.
It doesn’t seem like any of that time, effort or money did anything to improve it. There is sitting water there all the time and vegetation has grown back.
This creates a serious liability as there is no fence or gate surrounding the basin. At times, the water is very high and the kids can and do run around in it.
I noticed that all the new developments in town that have a water basin, have a high fence or gate so the children can’t get in.
Please can you put up a fence or gate around it so we can avoid any disasters?
Again, I thank you for taking care of this.
Response from Mayor Coles:
Good morning
I’ve asked public works and engineering to look into this and do what it takes to resolve the situation
Thanks for bringing it to my attention.
Ray
UPDATE: Good morning. Public Works has the fence installation on their current job schedule. Should be done sometime in the next few weeks. They will also clean up and see what can be done about the water
Take care
Ray

There is still a hospital sign with an arrow to turn left from New Hampshire onto Chestnut. It should be taken down for those who don’t live here and don’t know how to get to the hospital.
