Question:
Hi Mr Mayor,
I have often extra cardboard boxes that do not fit in the yellow bin since it’s overstuffed already. Can I break them up and lie them neatly near the bin and the men will take them?
Keep up the great work! Appreciate all that you do!
Thank you,
Avi
Response from Mayor Coles:
Hi Avi,
I’m afraid I do not have good news. Public Works tells me that the drivers don’t always have the time to reload the cans after they pick them up. Many times they will, but if they are running behind they can’t guarantee it. Have you considered requesting an additional yellow can through Public Works? It worked for me! I know around the holidays, when my cans are still overflowing, I’ve asked a neighbor if I could help fill their can!
Something else to consider, is using the resident drop off facility at Public Works. It is open 7 days a week. You can bring excess cardboard as well as bulk you don’t want laying around until the next bulk pick up.
There is also the County Facility located on New Hampshire Ave. In addition to cardboard, this is the only facility you can drop off old paint cans at.
Take Care
Ray

I had this issue too and I called public works and I believe they gave me (no deposit required) a second yellow bin. Many neighbors of mine have done this too, especially since many grocery stores have began offering boxes for your shopping.
