Lakewood Mayor Ray Coles and Police Chief Greg Meyer this evening commented on the Surfside tragedy and disaster which left multiple people dead, and scores injured. A Lakewood couple is also among the missing.

“I could not believe the images of the collapsed building on television this morning,” Mayor Coles told TLS. “I was awe struck watching heroic first responders run towards the devastation to rescue survivors from the wreckage. I am sure that my prayers are joined with thousands of others tonight, hoping and praying for word of more survivors.”

Lakewood Police Chief Greg Meyer says he is praying for the families and for good news.

“Our hearts and prayers go out to the families affected by the horrific tragedy in Surfside,” Chief Meyer told TLS. “The reports of a Lakewood couple missing makes this tragedy really hit home. We’re praying for all involved, including the first responders who have a daunting task ahead.”

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has declared a state of emergency for the MCI.

Officials say it could days to methodically remove the debris.
