The Howell Township Police Department is investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash involving one vehicle which occurred last night.
According to police, at approximately 11:02pm on September 6th, a Toyota Rav4 being operated by a 51 year old Lakewood man was traveling East bound on Lanes Mill Road in the area of Lanes Pond Road.
The operator of the Toyota Rav4 was negotiating a curve in the road when the vehicle ran off the road to the right and struck a concrete style mailbox.
The collision with this mailbox caused the vehicle to lose control and rotate. The vehicle then collided with a brick landscaping wall on a nearby property which caused the vehicle to overturn.
Subsequent to the crash, the operator of the Rav4 became trapped in the vehicle and sustained fatal injuries. The operator of the Rav4 was pronounced deceased at the scene. There were two adult passengers and two juvenile passengers in the vehicle at the time of the crash. The passengers of the vehicle were transported to a local hospital and remain in stable condition.
This incident remains under investigation by the Howell Township Police Department.
