The Lakewood High school will begin using metal detectors this coming Monday, Board members told TLS. The board says the metal detectors, currently only used at sports events at the gym, was proposed by the new security team. During Thursday’s meeting, some parents – which complained about the district’s previous security company – complained about the fact that the security officers at the school are armed, board members say.
BOE member Isaac Zlatkin says, he discusses the issues with the former officers, who say they carry the weopons bacause they continuously to train with weapons and that they face a greater risk being that they were former police officers. Zlatkin says however, that the officers also train to use extra restraint in a school environment.
The board added, that Toms River also utilizes security guards with concealed weapons.
BOE member Yisroel Friedman answered those parents saying to take a look back at the shooting which took place at the French school last week. TLS.
in camden they have the metal detectors and they sit on the side in most locations -not operating.
there are other school districts that have them.
the most importnat rule is to ban cell phones in schools at ALL ages. This would stop a lot of problems including gang activity….

We need better security in public schools as well as private schools. Just in the past 3 months we had school shootings in Toulousse, France, Chardon, Ohio,Jacksonville, Florida, Walphole, NEw Hampshire,Blacksburg VA, SanJ JOse, Rio De Jenaro, Houston, and Omahao!! 28 people died and dozens more critically injured and that is in 3 months! Look at the news.
We need armed guards in every school in america and there actually parents complaining!!!! How stupid can these parents be!
I believe then all school in Lakewood should have the same accomodations….why should only this school receive these ammenities. I would think if we need this much security in one place, there is a problem ya think?
The public schools need better security. I question if the np’ s really need it here in Lakewood. I am not against it but just questioning the need
I just hope they are using a high level security holster, so the kids don’t gang up on the guards and take their weapons. Guns are not allowed in prisons for this reason.
#6 if its a concealable holster, then odds are its a level 1. it would be bulky and exposed to meet level-3 demands.
personally i think they should just have standard level-3 holsters fully exposed as another deterrent.
So I guess that means no more pens sn school. Or calculators, or backpacks with zippers. Or pants, or belts.
Total liberal waste of tax dollar thing.
Metal things don’t hurt people. People hurt people.
