On Sunday, August 13th, wrestling Head Coach Oscar Orellana and his staff hosted a wrestling clinic with over 135 students attending from Lakewood and other school districts.
Coach Orellana is a Lakewood graduate (class of 2005) who was the first member of his family to go to college, and is fluent in English and Spanish. Orellana is a guidance counselor in Lakewood schools, and has won many accolades and awards including ‘Best guidance counselor in Ocean County’.
Lakewood graduate and former star wrestling team member Damian Hahn (class of 1999), who now is a wrestling coach at Cornell University and other staff from Cornell, participated in the clinic demonstrating to the students various techniques to utilize during competitions
More than $6,500 was raised that will be used to advance Lakewood wrestling.
Coach Orellana almost left Lakewood Piners this past June when he was offered a job in a nearby district but after meeting with the Superintendent opted to stay with the Piners.
