  1. OK, this is a problem I post a comment to hire more police at 10:05 and still waiting moderation then a comment is posted at 10:34 to lay off police and thats already posted tell me why?????

  2. Its kind of like traffic lights. They dont install one until x amount of accidents happen there. Its like, ok only seven people got killed at that intersection, we need eight.

Dont toughen up security until one guy gets shot a day. Being number one in Ocean is no big, we need to wait until we top Jersey! We need some PROACTIVE action around this town.

  3. Number six, great idea but with only on average 7-9 cops per shift, all the cops are going to do is be reactive and answer calls for service one right after the other, leaving very little time for them to be proactive. When was the last time you saw the bicycle cops in the neighborhoods? I can’t remember. What I do remember is about 4 years ago, when the PD was far greater staffed, Lakewood actually seemed to be making a turn around. But the Mayor is right, we should lay off 5 cops and promote already ranking officers to a higher grade. That makes tremendous sense. Especially since the guys they are laying off are making about 50 G’s including their benefits.

  4. to wakelood: Hard to be PRO-active when your Police are under staffed to begin with and the Township wants to lay-off cops…Don’t you think??? …let’s buy more yellow garbage cans, they will protect us, we can all hide inside them!!!

  5. I do believe #4 was being sarcastic and was really saying don’t lay off the cops. Those 5 cops, aren’t they done by the end of the week? Goodbye cops hello more crime yeppy! (oh by the way I am being sarcastic I really don’t want the cops to go)

  6. Not too mention the reduction of staff in the detective bureau. I have been told that last August two very seasoned detectives were taken out of the bureau and put back in Patrol. One of them, solved a very high profile and sensitive case. Does anyone recall when one of our own young ladies was abducted and raped?! In my opinion, detectives with that kind of experience should never be taken out. Maybe these homicides could be solved with their experience……just my thoughts.

  7. The town hired and sent 4 guys into the academy in just last year. They had the money to hire 4 then, what happened?? Did they think about whether they could sustain these jobs or just on a whim decide to hire? Funny, only 2 made it thru- so if we’re going by 2009’s thinking, they should be hiring at least 2 more to backfill what they had planned for. And that was before all the retirements! This town is so backwards.

  8. Lets build more houses, so we can move in more people, so we can have more illegals working in Lakewood. Lets completely destroy the infrastructure of Lakewood ( what little is left ). You get what you “plan” for.

  9. the picture on the scoop is of westwood street which dead ends into Negba St playground. most of the people (includign children) from Negba walk via Westwood to get to Ridge and the Shuls.

Finaly the drug house have been knocked down but that did not stop the gang/drug participants to forget their old hangout or seculded dumping grounds.
