Lakewood First Aid Gets $20,000 Grant For New Ambulance

VIDEO: [UPDATED] The Lakewood First Aid squad this morning accepted a $20,000 grant, to help them purchase a new ambulance. Flanked by the Mayor, UEZ’s Patricia Komsa, and Lakewood First Aid’s Captain Mordy Berger, Lakewood First Aid President Ralph Lasry signed the form accepting the grant, made possible through the UEZ.

“This will help us continue to serve the community”, Lasry says.

The squad says it does about 600 transports annually, and performs many standbys as well as extrication.

Lakewood First Aid also serves as a backup to the Township’s EMS Department.

The new ambulance, which replaces an older ambulance, is expected to be on the streets next week. TLS

  1. hey number 1 , did they apply for the grant ? also lets not forget the lakewood first aid is our oldest vol first aid , also the first dispatched when ems is tied up.. stop being so negitive

  2. can someone please explain to us all the difference between LFA- Lakewood First Aid and the “Township EMS dept” ? or are they one and the same??

  3. Lakewood First Aid Squad was formed in 1930 as the primary EMS for Lakewood Township. in 1979 the township formed the EMS department. From then on the EMS depatment was primary & Lakewood First Aid Squad was the backup for the township. However, Lakewood First Aid Squad is still the primary source of extrication & fire standby’s for the Lakewood Township. To clarify your question, LFA & EMS are 2 seperate entities. LFA survives ONLY on donations. They do not bill for their service as EMS does. They have seperate ambulances, equipment & supplies. I hope this answers your question.

  4. To confused says: Lakewood Twp EMS is the paid EMTs in town; Lakewood First Aid are the Volunteers (means no pay)..about the only thing the same with them is they are in the same building. Just like Lakewood LFD is the Career Firefighter’s Company (Paid) and Lakewood Vol Fire Dept are volunteers (that means No Pay ). The Volunteers back up the Paid services..when needed so you dont have to go outside town for services

  5. So if lakewood EMS billes for their services why in the world did the uez give them a free ambulance last year? If its a business charge 5 more a call and pay for a rig that way

  6. so LFA and township EMS share the same building and equipment? so Scott Carter is in charge of what? and Mordy Berger is Captain of what??

  7. #14, read post #9. LFA & EMS do NOT share equipment & supplies. they are totally seperate. Scott Carter is in charge of the EMS dept & has nothing to do with LFA. Mordy Berger is the Captain of LFA.
