In response to the incident this week which highlights the urgency of working smoke detectors, the Lakewood Fire Department will be giving out free smoke detectors, Fire Commissioner David Mizrahi tells TLS.

The smoke detctors (pictured) are intended for families with older homes which may not have interconnected systems, Mizrahi says.

Commissioner Mizrahi thanks Ocean County Fire Marshal Dan Mulligan and Billy Gee for helping arrange the distribution.

Smoke detectors will be given out on Friday, October 23, 2015, between 12-2 PM at 316 River Avenue, on a first-come-first-serve basis while supplies lasts.

Approximately 400 smoke detectors will be distributed.
