Lakewood Fire Department Responds to Three-Alarm Blaze at Local School [VIDEO & PHOTOS]

Firefighters battled a three-alarm fire in Lakewood last night.

On Friday evening, at approximately 7:26 p.m., the Lakewood Fire Department was alerted to a fire at 1143 East County Line Road. The incident occurred in an occupied school building with an estimated 80 individuals inside at the time of the alarm. All occupants were safely evacuated, and no injuries were reported.

Upon arrival, firefighters were met with heavy fire conditions. The incident quickly escalated to three alarms, ultimately bringing 10 engine companies and 7 ladder companies to the scene. Approximately 60 firefighters worked to contain the fire, which took about three hours to bring under control. Crews then remained on site for an additional four hours to extinguish hotspots and conduct overhaul operations.

The building sustained extensive damage as a result of the blaze.

“The safe evacuation of everyone inside the building was our top priority, and thanks to the swift actions of staff, students, and our firefighters, no one was injured,” said Fire Chief Yahr of the Lakewood Fire Department. “This was a challenging fire that required significant resources, and I want to commend our firefighters and mutual aid partners for their professionalism and dedication.”

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Ocean County Fire Marshal’s Office.

The Lakewood Fire Department extends its appreciation to all support partners and mutual aid companies that responded to the fire and the community for their cooperation during the incident.

What were the ladder trucks spraying water at when the metal roof is stopping it from hitting the fire ?

Wow that Mac ladder truck looks super old! I’m guessing from the 80/90s.
Does anyone know the reason they are using this fire truck ? I’m not seeing it on the fire departments website.

It is but they don’t use it for regular calls. It was brought in because they needed all the trucks available.

Yeah, I think I saw it parked at the station on Monmouth and 1st, the one which recently became a career station from previously being volunteer. That station went from having one ladder truck (#1) to having 2. And I think this one is usually sitting next to those 2 now, though I never saw it roll out to action.

That truck is an Aerial and it is Lakewood’s. The LFD got it from Long Branch about a year ago and uses it for training and events. It was used because we needed every possible ladder truck and without it we have 3 trucks; Ladders 1,3,and 5. They don’t have on their website pictures of every single truck. It currently parks at the 800 Monmouth Ave firehouse. The response to the fire was excellent! Thank you to the Lakewood Fire Dept for doing a great job as always!!
