Lakewood Fire Department Chief thanks Firefighters who battled Wildfire, warns of lingering dangers [UPDATED]

Late last night, Lakewood Fire Chief John Yahr took to social media to thank the dozens of firefighters who battled the now-contained 170-acre wildfire in Lakewood.

“Well only thing I can say is what an excellent job by the Lakewood Fire Department today. In most adverse conditions they performed admirably to contain the fire to the building of origin. Thank you to all our Mutual Aid partners for your assistance on this day of days. Thank you to the NJ state forest fire service for their quick response and effort to contain the wildfire.

I am so proud to be chosen to run this fine organization. All your hard work is paying off. This Department is set to soar.”

This morning, the Chief released the following statement to TLS:

“The Red Flag warning continues through 5pm today. All outdoor fires are prohibited during the Warning. Additionally, use extreme cautions when discarding cigarettes. We have all seen how quickly a small fire could threaten our community. We do not want a repeat of yesterday, ever.”
