A former Lakewood EMS, now an FDNY Paramedic, is being credited – along with his partner – for reviving a man after a Queens fire.
After Lieutenant Glenn Harris, Ladder 142, rescued the patient from the all-hands fire in Queens, the unconscious man was placed in a vehicle and revived.
“We were the first EMS unit on scene. We were providing and establishing the Medical Branch (commanding triage, treatment, transportation, and coordinating with operations) when several Firefighters came running up to us saying they had a fire patient. We removed the patient from the cold, and placed them in the back of our vehicle. We were treating the patient while still maintaining Medical Branch,” says FDNY Paramedic Chaim Dovid Spiegel (right), Station 47, who along with his partner, Paramedic Nigel Ramsook, treated and resuscitated the patient yesterday.
Paramedic Ramsook (left) says, “The patient woke up and was able to talk. They were able to speak again and our patient care continued enroute to a local hospital. The patient continued to breath on his own throughout transport.”
Per FDNY Fire Marshals, the fire was accidental, caused by unattended candles.
