Lakewood DPW Leaf Removal in Progress: Here’s the Schedule

It is the season for our front lawns and streets to be filled with fallen leaves, and Lakewood Township Department of Public Works (DPW) is on it.

During the months of November and December, the DPW’s special fleet of leaf collection trucks makes its rounds to every home in town to remove accumulated leaves. (During the rest of the year, DPW will only collect leaves from a property when requested.)

DPW Director Phil Roux explains that although the official leaf removal runs operate from Monday through Friday, crews also frequently operate during weekend off hours as well. This is done both to cover any properties that were not reached in time, as well as, sometimes, to be “ahead of the game” and begin the following week’s round early. Therefore, it is advisable for residents to have their leaves prepared by the Friday afternoon prior to their officially scheduled week.

How to Prepare:

Leaves should be raked at the curbline, similar to where cars are parked. The leaves should be left in loose, open piles (not bagged, etc.) with no other matter (wood, brush, dirt, etc.) in the pile. Leaves should be located a minimum of 10 feet away from storm water drains.

Scheduled Pickup Dates:

Zone 1: If your regular garbage pickup is on Mondays, leaf removal is during the first week of month (November 3rd – 7th; and December 1st – 5th)

Zone 2: If your regular garbage pickup is on Tuesdays, leaf removal is during the second week of month (November 10th – 14th; and December 8th–12th)

Zone 3: If your regular garbage pickup is on Wednesdays, leaf removal is during the third week of month (November 17th– 21st; and December 15th–19th)

Zone 4: If your regular garbage pickup is on Thursdays, leaf removal is during the fourth week of month (November 24th – 28th; and December 22rd– 26th)

“We would like to thank Lakewood residents for making the leaf collection process smooth and efficient,” says Director Roux. “The DPW looks forward to continue working towards making Lakewood as clean, safe and beautiful as can be.”
