Lakewood DPW director Pat Donnelly tells TLS the cleanup for the recent blizzard cost the town approximately $329,000.
As earlier reported, the new director had placed approximately 125 pieces of equipment on the roads to expedite the cleanup. Unlike in previous years, the the Township outsourced a large portion of the cleanup operations to ensure a more efficient cleanup.
According to a poll on TLS, approximately 85% of voters said the town did a ‘fair’ or ‘great’ job on the cleanup.
Ocean County officials said the cost of salting, plowing and associated cleanup costs of Ocean County’s nearly 630 miles of roadways and county government facilities was an estimated $725,000.
Um…. isn’t this why we pay taxes?

So, cleaning up Lakewood was almost half of the cost to clean ALL of ENTIRE Ocean County. Sounds like either the county knows hore to negotiate better deals or Lakewood is paying way too much..Once again, very little concern about spending OUR tax dollars.
That’s roughly the equivalent of the property taxes for 25 homes in this town.
If we’re trying to compare the price per mile of county roadway obviously lkwd will be more as it’s easier to plow miles of straight roadway… I’m actually very pro outsourcing as it may look like it cost more but on the long term we save on health care and pension costs that all government employees get! That being said it seems like he has a blank check every slight chance of snow etc… The salters seem to be out there there was no reason to salt today!
And if they didn’t clean up well, we’d all be complaining that are tax dollars are not being used properly. They used it this time for what we all wanted them to use it for so SHVEIG!

The difference between snow cleanup this year versus past years is amazingly noticeable. And credit must be given where credit is due. Thank you to all those responsible for doing such a great job!
