Lakewood DPW adds 3rd Shift to help alleviate daytime traffic around town

The Lakewood DPW will soon start a new third shift, to help alleviate daytime traffic, DPW Director Phil Roux confirmed to TLS.

The new shift will run between the hours of 11 PM and 7:30 AM, and will be manned by approximately 10 people.

Roux says the new shift will focus mostly on road work, and perform some sanitation pickup duties for the non-residential areas  – such as Industrial Park, and school areas.

In the future, as Lakewood continues to grow, the later shifts could also begin picking up trash from residential areas during the nighttime hours to help alleviate traffic.

This new shift, says Roux, could also help with storm prep and salting during the Winter.

The new shift is expected to begin on July 15.

Great! More expenses (translation: higher property taxes) due to night shifts, onto the backs of the public due to the overdevelopment. Great job Township Commitee!

The Township Committee is not totally to blame, the “lack” of Planning Board helped create this mess. Every time a Builder came up to the Board with a project, the Builder had an expert say ‘it would have no effect on the current traffic pattern’. The Board would approve the project and when the traffic pattern got worse the Board did not hold the builder accountable. The Board just went on to the next project. Also there is a master plan use it and stop building by variance.

It’s great to see that somebody who gets it takes the time to explain it to those who do not get it. We are no longer a town people. When I grew up in the city in my Borough they had a third shift that picked up garbage sometimes very late and I have to say that if it wasn’t for the sanitation the city would be a real cesspool.

Thank you, Public Works. We appreciate all you do.
This is something Lakewood needs as we grow from a small town to a large city.
Ignore the complainers and keep up the good work.
