According to Dr. Shanik, Dr. Nochum Indich, Dr. Neal Gittleman and Dr. Harvey Hirsh, kiddie pools should not be used for playgroups, day camps or shared amongst neighbors, due to the increased risk of spreading Pinworms, Shigella, CMV (Cytomegalovirus), and stomach viruses.Sprinklers they say, would be a good alternative.

I have long found the kiddie pools a most unappetizing way to entertain children (slimy pool bottoms, non-chlorinated water) and a drowning hazard as well since they are not neccesarily kept in gated areas.
Curious – “you” sound like someone very important. Why dont you let us know who “you” are?
same story every year
Anonymous, you sound like someone very stupid. Why not let us know who you are?
If you empty them out every day and put in clean water with a little bleach (not enough to make it dangerous, but, enough to kill germs) then I don’t see what the problem is, as long as the children are well supervised.
BLEACH?!?!?!
BLEACH!!! I think the doctors are right…use sprinkles they are safer around cchildren & adults like you.
think the do
Actually, chlorine is the basis of household bleach and if you are genuinely interested, you can call the Clorox Hotline and they will tell you the ratio of bleach to water that could sanitize a Kiddie pool. However, the absence of a filter, and as I said “very importantly” above, the drowning hazard pools pose do not warrant their use for a kiddie camp. Especially if the average age of the counselors is about 12 years old.
Bleach is Chlorine, same thing that most swimming pools use for keeping them clean. I said careful supervision is needed. I don’t think 12 year olds, without an adult around should be supervising a bunch of toddlers anyway.
I always avoid kiddie pools – I dont fit! 🙂
