Lakewood Doctors Say to Avoid Kiddie Pools

With the recent rise in temperature, who’s not thinking of swimming. However, according to Dr. Shanik, Dr. Nochum Indich, Dr. Neal Gittleman and Dr. Harvey Hirsh, kiddie pools should not be used for playgroups, day camps or shared amongst neighbors.

The reasoning they say, is due to the increased risk of spreading Pinworms, Shigella, CMV (Cytomegalovirus), and stomach viruses.

The Doctors encourage sprinklers to be used as an alternative. TLS.

  1. This is very prudent advice. Whether the Hamon Am follows It is a different story. At the very least, parents should ask the backyard-daycamp ppl to change the water every day.

  2. As a playgroup morah for many years, i have been chlorinating my kiddie pool in daycamp for many years. I went to wal -mart one year and spoke to a sales rep. in the pool center. He directed me very clearly how to use the chlorine granules i was buying to properly sanitize the specific kiddie pool that i was using. According to the sales rep this was as sanitary as a reg underground pool. to be honest, i do see a diff. as far as reg germs are being spread, and i have not had any shigella or cmv etc. Ask your pediatrician what he feel about this……

  3. If the doctors say not to use the kiddy pools, they will be used anyway b/c thats the way to keep the kids happy. Better to educate the morahs to chlorinate the water to keep it safe and to provide them with a better alternative to sprinklers

  4. if we give our children all shots that the Dr.’s recommend to protect our children, whats the issue with the kiddie pool – our kids are protected, aren’t they????

  5. I have always added a measured amount of household bleach to my kiddie pool. It never ruined the kids clothes, or even mine from getting splashed on. I even wrote Clorox xomany to ask them the appropriate measuring. There is no reason not to put some of this in your pool daily. And change the water.

  6. What’s wrong with sprinklers and water slides? That’s all my kids know and they are so happy and look forward to camp
