6:43 p.m. Snow has stopped falling as of approximately 3:00 p.m. today. The Department of Public Works has been working around the clock to dig Lakewood out of the latest blizzard. Gov. 7:42 p.m.TLS just spoke with Committeeman R’ Meir Lichtenstien who worked tirelessly over Thursday and Friday together with the other Committee members to ensure a smooth cleanup. “Our efforts have definitely paid off” he said. “We can see a tremendous improvement from the last storm”. There are still some areas which are not done, but they are continuing to work on them. There have been 30 trucks on the roads since the beginning of the storm, including some with Supervisors.
8:04 p.m. Residents from several areas told TLS they have gotten 16-20 inches of snow.

  1. Can we get an official amount of inches?
By my house there are spots as low as 12 inches and some as high as 16 inches.
    What is the official number?

  2. They don’t post official totals for Lakewood but here are the latest snowfall reports from The National Weather Service in Mount Holly, NJ. You can figure out what the 2 closest cities to Lakewood are & get your estimate that way.

  3. I almost never comment on these sites, but I must give thanks to the Departments this time. Brookhill was plowed very well this afternoon. They dedicated a truck to Brookhill and the fellow went back and forth until he established a nice wide road for driving (and walking).
If they follow up with good salting (it is obviously extremely slippery) then they will have done a superb job on all counts and everyone who helped prepare for this storm deserves credit where credit is due.

  4. I am not kvetching but I am wondering why there was no salt put down today. My street was plowed pretty well but I noticed that the trucks were loaded with salt with no spreader. Is it a budgeting decision?

  5. Thanks Mr Franklin, the walk to shul this morning was easy thanks to the truck plowing our street this morning at 7am ,
BTW since then we have another 8″ on our street waiting for the truck to come back, please dont forget us

  6. westgate- what an amazing job! kudos to public works and those oskim bitzorchei tzibur from westgate who coordinated with them. Tizku Lemitzvos!

  7. If anyone has any info on the driving conditions on the roads from brooklyn to lakewood please post. THANK YOU! i want to start heading out but need to know if its dangerous

  8. The biggest lesson from all this:
    COMPLAINING WORKS!!!!!!!
What an inprovment by the DPW since last storm..
gr8 job by all plowers and askanim who somewhat feel as if they drove the trucks.

  9. I posted on friday mocking the Friday-morning-meeting but I was wrong. Word got, peolpe parked in their driveways, drivers-trucks were @ the ready & my dead-end, off Princeton Ave was done a coupla times & looks great. Thank-you Public Works. You guys Rock !!

  10. Though we complained last time about the lousy cleanup job, we have to give credit where credit is due. Thanks Jon and the guys – you’re doing a great job!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  11. They did a great job plowing on Evian and Omni court. We also did our part by getting all the cars off the street before Shabbos. Thank you to all the organizers.

  12. 9:40 PM The West Kennedy – Teaberry area has still not been plowed – even once!!!

Hey askonim, before all the wonderful “thank yous”, could you pass the message along that we also pay taxes to this township who seems to have forgotten us!!

  13. Happy people, nice to see more positive comments about the public works.
side road very slippery not a good night to be out in a car or walking about.

  14. The Mir Yerushalayim asifa will Bezras Hash-m still take place tomorrow in Bais Feigah the Rosh Hayeshiva Shlit’a will Be”h be there and now more then ever it would be a great chizuk for him to see you there. Looking forward to seeing everyone!!

  15. Thanks , they plowed @ 7:30 this morning it surely helped the men walk to shul but they haven’t been seen since. It’s getting icey, the temperatures are dropping down to 14 deg. tonight. Please send the plows and some salt.

  16. Spruce was plowed this morning – but none of the other streets…cypress..cathy..read – not until 4 pm. At about 1:30 – hatzolah was called to a house on Cypress and got stuck in the snow there – about 15 guys pushed the ambulance out so that they can get the patient to a hospital. Sorry but the township messed up in this area!!

  17. Great job DPW! Seems like complaining ALOT works. Hopefully all the yelling last time will echo in your ears for years to come. I have never seen such a nice job done in all my years in Lakewood.

  18. Dear #20 They do not salt when snow is on the ground because it turns snow to water. Water then turns to ice. It is much safer to just leave it plowed as low as they can make it and come back later and put sand or dirt down.

  19. ah grossin shkoach to reb john reb meir reb aron k and all of the askonim involved..where is steve? im sure hes makeingit all happen behind the scenes.

  20. thanks shui for getting the town to plow lakeveiw and thanks public works for a great good all over lakwood!! next blizzard is tues wed. with another 2 feet

  21. I haven’t been living here long but I’m glad I do, the streets here are clean great job to who ever plowed here much better this time around

  22. why arnt the plows out now plowing all the slush???? tonight it will freeze up again and then we will all have what to complain about.
For my 8000 dollars that i apy in taxes dont I desrve the service??? If we would be ablt to privatise snow removal and garbadge pick up we would have a much better deal. Look at all the areas that are cleaned privatly not by township. Those places are clean to the blacktop and when the next storm hits on wed (or is it tues) they will be ready.
This townsip is really in need of a whole new crew!!
Yes they did better then the last storm but where are they now???? get the job finished!!! just better then last time isnt good enough1
