PHOTOS & VIDEO: Multiple agencies from Lakewood and Brick Townships took part Tuesday in “Operation Hot Shot”, a drill simulating a shoot-out at a school and involving multiple patients.
The drill, which took place at the Brick High School, simulated a scenario where 12 shots were fired in a school with approximately 150 students. The ‘gunman’ was ‘killed’ by a SWAT officer, and the ‘victims’ were treated and or transported to Ocean Medical Center. Other ‘green tagged’ patients with minor injuries were transported by Lakewood First Aid Squad. Five Medevac helicopters were also called in, but then cancelled.
“It was a great and surreal learning experience”, says a Lakewood First Aid member who took part in the drill. “It was impressive to watch all the different agencies work so well with each other. It’s all about planning, training and teamwork.” TLS.
great job , lets hope we never ever need to use what they learned
like 31 said lets hope we never ever need this, but practice makes perfect. job well done
it would be nice if lakewood could actually do one of these drills. with all of the schools we have in lakewood, you would think this would be a training priority to better train and prepare our own responders.
#2,if u can read Lakewood took part on that drill.
Was our Squat team there?
Did LCSW/Homeland security participate?
I can read and I can write and from what I can see I only saw Lakewood Police, EMS and First Aid present. When was the last time that you saw all Lakewood First Responders take part in a big drill like this inside Lakewood Township. I didn’t see all Lakewood Responders taking part in this drill either. It seems as if Lakewood is too scared to look reality in the face and admit that something like this can happen in our town. We always see our surrounding towns preparing and training for events such as this, but not lakewood.
It would be nice to see this preparedness happen in lakewood but that would cost money and than people would be complaining. Its easier to say sorry or i am to busy than to explain why we are scaring everyone in these situations and planning. Many will starting asking, they must no something, we are not safe. From what I know about the emergency services and not being there but looking at the pictures. It looked like Police were practicing in real time, vehicles staged to react to events, Lakewood EMS looked like was in charge at the command board and even had care for real time participants with a rehabiliation unit. Rememeber this was not our town, so no not everyone will be playing (LCSW or Chaverium). For the first responders there, hopefully they can bring back what was seen or learned and share with others to make us safer. But safer means money at times, all i can say is good luck with that.
# 7 can your really read, if you can then you should know that the drill was run by the brick police and they are the ones who ran the drill and requested mutual aid, so not all first responders would respond out of town.
LCSW is not trained to respond to an active shooter or any critical event,
.
first responder , the biggest problem is that lcsw and havherim is they do not do backround checks on their members. to become police first aid ems or fire you have a very strict backround check done , because you are prevy to the responce tactics that will be used. i am not accusing any one of anything i think that both are great helps to lakewood and we need them but, untill tehy go through the same backround checks and get cleared by DHS they cannot and should bot take part in such drills. does that make any sence ? again i know lcsw has done a amazing job and we can use more member but a better screening and backround checks need to be done just for our own security if they want to be involved in large scale responces to terror attacks !
