Lakewood BOE Hires Purchasing Agent

The Lakewood BOE has finally hired a Purchasing Agent. The job of the Purchasing Agent will be to review all purchases and ensure that taxpayers are getting the best most for their money.Until now, the Business office maintained that purchases may only be made through state-approved vendors. With the Purchasing Agent – Thomas Carter, the Board is now able to make purchases from the cheapest vendor possible.

“In one example, the Lakewood BOE paid $5,000 for smart desks in the Pre-school, while the purchasing agent in Cherry Hill got the same thing for $3,000”, a Board of Education member said to TLS.

The idea to hire a purchasing agent was first brought up in 2010 when the new members were voted in. However, their efforts were rebuffed. Last night, their idea has finally become a reality.

  1. It is about time! I hope teachers and department coordinators also will have the ability to shop for the best price. I once bought items with my personal funds and asked for reimbursement because if I ordered through our math department, we had to pay top dollar from a designated company.

  2. The Lakewood School District is turning the corner and is on it’s way back from the brink of disaster.

Congratulations Carl Fink and to all that worked so hard to make the necessary changes to the Administration.

  3. What took so long is the same reason why our district has always been a mess. Our elected leaders never had a clue to that which goes on in the organization they oversee and its unexpected possibilities to serve all our children with efficiency, equity and excellence, and few of our insiders have ever had a clue to the needs, concerns and burdens of our citizens.
