UPDATED: The season of “How come my street wasn’t plowed yet”? is here. This afternoon, Lakewood got its first snowfall. Although still under an inch of snow on the ground, many Motor Vehicle Accidents have already been reported due to the road conditions. TLS has been notified that the salt trucks have begun spreading salt on the roads around town.
UPDATE 6:45 p.m:Over the last 2 hours, police have responded to over a dozen Motor Vehicle Accidents, including a multi vehicle accident on Massachusetts Avenue and Prospect Road, as well as MVAs involving buses – one of which knocked out a fire hydrant on Route 88.
Motorists are urged to use extreme caution during these weather conditions. A happy and safe winter to all. MVA photo credit: S.S.
UPDATE: As of about 10:00 p.m., there has been dozens of accidents reported. Some of the parties involved had to wait as long as half hour to arrive, being that the police were overwhelmed with calls.

don’t leave home without fiveish !!
Why aren’t they salting and sanding, the roads are icy???
only in lakewood,
It’s not the drivers fault. IT’S THE TIRES FAULT.. Don’t you people get it…
The accidents happen because people in this town are horrible drivers…
I witnessed a van pass 2 school buses and 3 cars on Central Avenue. He went round them on the LEFT side of the rode. Another idiot driving in Lakewood on icy, snowy roads.
Waiting to see a video about him being involved in an accident on TLS
Fiveish for Sanitation Commisioner
I was driving at 20 MPH w/ excellent Michelin tires (3 months old) and I was still glitching on some Lakewood roads..
to #8 Ok maybe not your tires maybe your CELL PHONE!!! Or it was the SNOW’S FAULT.It’s never the driver, drove threw the same white stuff as everyone eles and never incounterd a problem. And if you say you were not on the phone I don’t beleive you unless you can prove it.
My husband is also a cautious driver and has good tires. He took the back roads from Monmouth County and inched his way home. A 20 minute commute took an extra hour. He too questioned the lack of salt or sand.
to # 10 I don’t know the rules or the laws for the state of nj but I once heard that no salt or sand will be put down until there is a 1 inch of snow on the ground, ( can someone post the rule or law) Better to be home an hour later then never coming home at all. sounds like a safe driver on the back roads. then the heavy roads most drivers take for granted.
where is the DPW with their expensive hight tech early storm system that should have warned them to salt.
Why do you seem so bitter cold??
Why are you so antagonistic to good drivers? Why can’t you understand that with the mixture of snow and the freezing low 20’s temperatures there are very icy and dangerous road conditions outside?? Why do you keep trying to make up various excuses to blame the good citizens? Why are you so vehemently against the DPW getting out there and clearing the ice? Who do you work for???
One of my friends was just rear-ended by a retired cop. Are you going to complain that the police officer was also driving with bad tires or yapping on his cell??
I would reason that the icy/slippery road conditions are the culprit, and NOT like YOU claim – that anyone involved in accident is a bad driver!!
You may not be aware, but the environment you live in is not as negative as you wish it to be..
Get a life!!
I was on the 195 coming into Lakewood ….very slick
stop blaming drivers, they got to put down salt…..
I also happen to be a pretty good driver if I do say so myself, but in these conditions, I was slipping and sliding to the left side of the road for some reason! You yanks just have no control over the vehicles when the steering wheel is on the wrong side.
TO #13 Am NOT ANTIAGONISTIC if you read my post to # #10 I said I don’t know the rules or the laws for the state of NJ but I ONCE HEARD that no salt or sand will be put down until there is a 1 inch of snow on the ground, ( can someone post the rule or law) Also I said Better to be home an hour later then never coming home at all. SOUNDS LIKE A SAFE DRIVER on the back roads.Until the DPW or someone tells us otherwise to salt or sand I will l stand vehemently against the DPW. or someone eles. Now maybe you know why I am so bitterly cold.
You were rude and antagonistic at # 4 and # 9.
I believe you owe the Lakewood drivers an apology!
And btw, your post at # 17 sounds like gibberish..
#14 YES ask for his cell phone reports at the time of the accident Like london driver says: I was slipping and sliding to the left side of the road for some reason! You yanks just have no control over the vehicles I ONCE HEARD that no salt or sand will be put down until there is a 1 inch of snow on the ground, ( can someone post the rule or law)
Your comment at # 19 makes no sense at all. Are you hallucinating..?
Where is my pic of fiveish. Why was it removed ?
Yeah, sounds like Zydko is slipping and sliding in other ways 🙂
Most of your comments really make no sense. If you’re trying to say something, learn how to write full sentences. We can’t read your mind.
It’s New Jersey..if you don’t like snow Move South…its going to happen..more to come this weekend
Thanks to our police and ems who are out helping us. I saw several accidents and these guys are great for being out there in these unsafe conditions
i love the snow
zydco is DUI!
So who is going to plow snow and sand roads if public workers are laid off like you want? Will it be a joint venture of the residents? I don’t think so. Stop all this complaining and act like adults. You are supposed to drive responsibly and if you can’t stay off the roads. Oh and btw you need those public workers and cops to take care of your roads and accidents just as much as they need their jobs
Stop your bitterness already.
Stop trying to knock everyone besides yourself.
Start acting like an adult.
i went from westgate to 14th (a 3-5 min drive) and it took 25 mins! i was driving 5-10 mph. there was a lot of black ice. im traumatized!
Stop Blaming Public works everybody thinks ohhh why arent they out well if the people would Drive Propper accidents wont happen
It took me 1 hour and 20 minutes to get somewhere which would’ve taken 20 minutes in normal weather. I was skidding the whole time and had to drive 15 mph in order not to get into an accident. The weather was crazy since there was so much black ice! Thank goodness it stopped snowing!!! And B”H I came home safely!
Nice Ano its ignorant people who put the blame on everybody else and if drivers in Lakewood would obey the laws then there wouldnt be to many people crying about the amount of accidents in Lakewood A Get off the cell phones B Stop at the stop signs and C Pay Attetion
I say just stay home and dont go out in this weather if you dont have to
From your comments, and others like you, you would think that only accidents happen in Lakewood. Until you show statistics to back up your crying with comparisons of the number of drivers per accident of all NJ municipalities then just stop.
to zydaco
grow up! your comments are illogical and childish
If the twps. did put down salt early everyone would complain. Why are they doing it so early it didnt even start snowing or there is not that much. Why are we wasting money? No one is ever happy.
what are u fighting abt its asara b’teves
gee i come i drove an RWD V8 sports car to and from work, during and after the snowfall, and no accident. Maybe be i am careful and safe and took my time unlike everyone else involved in the accidents. Get off your phone and drive jeez
sure blame it on the tires and no salt on roads not because you CAN NOT DRIVE!!
but when i get passed on the right and left by you idiot drivers who seem to have only two thoughts in your heads….follow as close as possible so when the driver raises the dump body to load the spreader he wont see me, and pass the truck by going into his blind spot, its no wonder it takes us so long to get around. so remember, the next time you see the truck plowing or throwing salt, give US some respect and give us the room we need to do the job! thank you, for all its worth. p.s MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!!!
how many REPORTED accidents were there….?????
