The National Weather Service is predicting 2-4 inches of snow for Lakewood tonight and tomorrow. The Liaison to the DPW, Township Committeeman Ray Coles tells TLS the DPW has crews and salt trucks ready to go should it be necessary.

Coles says it’s expensive to get them out there, so “We want to make sure it’s absolutely necessary.”

If there is little accumulation, the trucks will not run, Coles says.

UPDATE 9 PM: Lakewood already got approximately 5 inches of snow, and it doesn’t appear to be letting up any time soon.

County plow trucks were seen salting County roads, though Township trucks were not yet dispatched.

UPDATE 10:15 PM: NWS: Snow Accumulation For Lakewood Now Estimated At 4-6 Inches.

In one incident, two women were trapped in their car after live primary wires fell down around their vehicle. JCPL was called in to shut the power so the women could emerge from their vehicle.

UPDATE 9:22 AM: Over 10,000 in Lakewood are now without power.

UPDATE 4:05 PM: Power restored to about 5,000 residents. About 5,500 remain without power.

  2. The roads are atrocious! They need plowing now! I just saw trucks and cars spin out all over and they were doing 10 miles an hour!
    DPW! OVERTIME is here!!

  3. Please, everybody, stay away from trees and other tall outdoor objects – the snow is very heavy, and large branches are falling all over the place! Make sure your kids are safe!

  4. Ay you guys are lucky. In brooklyn the word snow plolw being mentioned would be like huh we dont have money for that lets get stuck again.

  5. Wow! Back to minhag lakewood to have all the plow truks driving around lakewood with their plows up. I think now that we have our frum governor etc. We should crack down on the yearly problem of no shoveling which equals no school.

  6. Can’t you people find anything else to do than complain? Give the plows a chance , it has only been snow for a short time. Try staying home and off the roads.

  7. I folowed a plow driving down central turning in to miller driving back up new central …only problem plow wasn’t down and although the machine in bak was spining there was no salt or sand in truck but it was drivng upand down streets …ure tax dolars hhard at work

  8. What I wana know is-did jcp n l use scotch tape and elmers glue to fix the last power outage that suddenly comes a snow storm n boom everything goes?!or is this all NEW power outages that wouldve occurred even if Sandy hadn’t come

  9. White Oaks is out AGAIN, a branch fell on the wires, small fire and live cables down behind Remon Lane on Ridge. The entire day its been flickering on and off….

Cant get through to JCP & L, on the phone for an hour, listening to their “music”

  10. westgate do they have power didn’t see any complaints maybe the just gave up on this town ..

  11. Ridge is out , E7th is out, central out, west gate is out everyone call as much as possible don’t give up. By the way we have more than the 4″ that was predicted, it couldn’t come in a worse time when all trees were weakened and the ground saturated good luck to everyone

  12. The DPW spent millions on a early warning weather system
How could they not see this storm coming.
    No warning
    No Preperation
Your Tax dollars hard at work. Too bad elections were yesterday!!

  13. For all the people pointing out Minhagim of failures, let us also point out the cars that persist in going out during treacherous times. Plainly put, we don’t rely on miracles and asking someone else to get hurt because of your foolishness is selfish and arrogant.

Stay home. Learn, read a book or do a puzzle. Whatever. But don’t make a bad situation worse.

Good luck and stay safe and warm.

  14. I just purchased for frozen and fresh produce after having no electric for 7 days and now again? The lights are out, its out out at first I figured its my fuse but then I also realized my neighbors are alos out, I am saying thelim now 1-5

  15. The oilam should please chill (while staying warm and cozy somehow).I saw several huge blue flashes lasting several seconds light up the sky in the Westgate area which indicates a transformer blew somewhere. Please do not scream incompetence, this is ridiculous. This is G-D’s way of distracting us from the Obama win 😉

  16. if it took them 5 days to restore power you would think they would have done a good job but I guess they didn’t It’s cold I have no heat and two little kids. It’s 10:00 p.m where are we supose to go?????

  17. Oak knoll arbutus iris and surronding areas are out….were being punished for having power during sandy! 🙂 ahhh!! U poor ppl who didn’t have power during the storm. Now we feel for u! (And its only been 20min)

  18. Finally got through after an hour wait the call volume is 600 people on line……. They don’t have any answers and don’t know what to tell me….. Bla bla bla….. It’s the fourth time since our friend sandy arrived!

It’s time to start our own power company here in Lakewood I’m sure we could do a better job….

  19. i have a min of 6 ” by my house ,,
REMEMBER IF YOU HAVE TREES MIGHT BE WORTH IT TO GO OUT AND SHAKE THEM OFF TO SAVE THEM FROM CRACKING , THE LEAVES ARE HOLDING THE SNOW MAKING THEM VERY HEAVY

  20. Odd I checked the power outage website you posted and according to it currently only 20 customers in seaside are out of power and 202 out of 500 in mantaloking out. Odd. I thought like they cut the power there. Just saying.

  21. To report an outage, customers should call 1-888-LIGHTSS (1-888-544-4877) – it’s the fastest way to begin the restoration process (faster than the other jcp&l number given above).
