According to Donna Salin, director of the Volunteer Resource Center at Kimball, there are 525 active volunteers who have provided over 87,000 hours of service during 2009. “Our volunteers fulfill a broad range of services including patient contact, clerical services, cashiering, managing and staffing our three Thrift shops, transporting patients, reception, as well as many other responsibilities,” she explains. “We are very fortunate to have such a dedicated and committed group of volunteers here at Kimball,” says Salin.
Each year, Kimball’s Volunteer Resource Center honors one of its volunteers as the Volunteer of the Year. This year’s recipient, Lois Lawrence of Jackson, was recently presented with a commemorative glass engraved plaque. (Photo of her accepting the plaque). This award is bestowed upon the volunteer that worked the greatest number of hours during the year and recognizes their many efforts.
“Lois Lawrence started volunteering at Kimball Medical Center in 2006,” said Salin. “When we asked Lois where she would like to work, her response was, “anywhere you need me!”” “At the time, we needed a volunteer in our dietary department, and so we placed Lois there. Very quickly, Lois became a loyal, dedicated and valuable team member,” said Salin.
Lois soon took on a six day-a-week work schedule. During 2009, she worked 306 out of 365 days. “Our sincere thanks and well-deserved applause goes to our 2009 Volunteer of the Year, Lois Lawrence,” said Salin.
“Volunteers, like Lois, are an invaluable asset, and are critical to the overall success of Kimball Medical Center,” says Salin.
