Keren Hamaasros: Certain Carrots in Lakewood Shoprite and Costco Should Not be Purchased

carrots 1PHOTOS: TLS has been made aware of carrots from Israel (pictured) being sold in the Lakewood Shoprite as well as in Costco. According to Keren Hamasros, these products are an issue due to the current Shmittah year, and they should not be purchased.

If you have already purchased this item, you should call your local Rav as to what should be done with it, as returning it or discarding it can be problematic as well.

2On a separate note, Keren Hamaasros advises that this Erev Yom Tov Pesach is the time for Biur Maasros. All coins used for Hafrashas Terumos U’maasros need to be m’vuar properly by that time. Keren Hamaasros is once again providing the community with this service. Call Keren Hamaasros for assistance (732) 901-9246.

For further questions contact Keren Hamasros.

  1. I also mistakenly bought mandarins (looks like Clementines) from Eretz Yisroel in Shoprite. It has a Rabbanut (Yerushalayim??) Hechsher I think but I believe that’s relying on the heter mechira.
