It has come to the attention of TLS that local residents are picking up food items at certain Playa Bowls locations that are not certified Kosher.
Note, that each Playa Bowls location is a different story: some are not certified at all, and some stores are partially certified where the Hechsher is relying on the consumer to read the fine print. The latter are generally not listed on the “cRc’s Acceptable Kashrus Agencies”. Each store needs to be verified independently.
The Playa Bowls located in Howell NJ is now certified under JSOR (JSOR is one of the Acceptable Kashrus Agencies by the cRc)
(Prior to JSOR certifying the restaurant, several important changes needed to be made:
- Items that are highly infested were removed from the menu. Among them are goji berries, fresh mint, and dried figs
- Strawberries and blueberries are cleaned with a unique soap system and checked for accuracy by a mashgiach
- Although kale and spinach are blended (which some may claim they can be used w/o washing) – these items are now washed in soap before blending
- Several ingredients needed to be switched to reflect a higher standard)
Stop making it so difficult for me to order my food, it’s really important to me. The store is all natural so what can be wrong with it?
You’d be surprised.
Ask a professional in the kashrus field, he can explain it to you.
Bugs are natural
so just a simple Acai Bowl with Peanut Butter should be ok anywhere, right?
(no green leaves, no bugsy fruits)
Stop looking in strange places for food. There are plenty of places to buy from that are kosher without complications.
One more caveat – the dairy ingredients there aren’t Chalav Yisrael
Do they open on Shabbos?
Playa Bowls is a vegans place look it up
