A reader sent in this picture of a meal he received on Shabbos at Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch.

As you can tell, meat and dairy were apparently served together.

  1. About a half a year ago in Israel, a lady was in a restaurant up north, it was a kosher meat restaurant and she ordered ice cream for desert. They brought her dairy ice cream and she died because she was allergic to dairy. This story happened this year during April. The restaurant was in Rosh Pinah.

  2. For cholov stam people they could of eaten the ice cream first then wait and go to the chicken meal.
    Yes. Check. But not train or Basr b’chalav.

  3. the staff needs more training. it’s bikur cholim’s responsibility since they, i think, are in charge of the food. but as long as the foods were not on the same plate and fed to the patient together,nothing terrible happened. the good thing that did happen is that it brought to everyone’;s attention what should be every patient’s responsibility

    • Bikur Cholim is not in charge of the food fed to patients in the hospital. That is the responsibility of the the hospital’s dietary department.

  4. Patient literally fill out what The PATIENT wants to eat.
    The list to choose from says what’s dairy, what’s meat, and what’s parve. So while it’s a good PSA, it’s on the patient to choose what they want to eat, and to be diligent.
    It’s an ala carte menu.
    Not comparable to an airline where the meal is in one package.

  5. Chamirah Skanta Meisurah.One who is on a special diet should also check that the requirements are adhered to. (IE sugar for diabetics salt for heart patients)

  6. Of course you have to check it. You have to check that you were served a kosher meal. You have to check that the meal is sealed. Is it seriously a chiddush that you can’t rely on the Aino Yehudi server as your mashgiach??

  7. This goes on in almost every facility. I offered them that I will set up a system in place for the kosher department. They sounded very interested at the time. Then it was Tommorow, not tommorow, we will advise another day, then someone is not available, it just kept going on and on.
