K-9 Responding For Unattended Item, Again

Lakewood is keeping the County’s K-9 units quite busy these days. The K-9 officers are en-route to Lakewood again for an unattended suitcase left on the road near New Central Avenue.

The Lakewood Fire Department and EMS are on scene as well.

The area around the item has been taped off until the County advises that the suitcase is harmless.

  1. I REPEAT:
(even though iv been labeled an “anti-semi” for saying this foe years.)

i commend the police and all emergency personnel for responding and checking for the safety of my loved ones. what i cant stand is letting careless people off without any sort of fine to repay for the services rendered based upon their carelessness.

if your drive carelessly = ticket. why not if you cause a public alarm based upon sheer carelessness? NOT FAIR TO THE TAX PAYERS.

  2. I agree with you Mr. Conservative, in theory.

The question is, where do you stop? If I see a suspicious person in my backyard, and I call the police, and it turns out it was a dog crawling through my backyard, do I have to pay for the police coming down and causing a scare?

If someone gets into an accident, should he also compensate the police for their time?

If someone smells smoke, and calls the Fire Department, and really it was a bbq, should he have to pay for the expense?

I mean, we already pay for all these services with our property taxes.

So please explain – When should the person be required to compensate emergency services, and when not?

  3. And no, you are not an antisemite, I’ve realized that already. (Although I disagree with a certain assertion you’ve made a while back about master plans, but let’s not get into that again.)

When are we meeting for a beer?

  4. This was a legitimate scare it was a metallic briefcase that had some weird code numbers on it why is it wrong to call the cops what happens if it was c”v something scary inside I disagree with all of you I don’t think someone should pay a fine for trying to help out the community as they say in New York “if you see something say something” I think it was the right move by this person for calling the police

  5. Mr YId … I think your missing the boat on this one … The issue is whether the person who left the suspicious object ‘carelessly’ should compensate … not the person who ‘saw something and said something’.

  6. just wondering…do they make sure to locate the owners of all these unattended items? i would feel better knowing all these unattended packages were actually careless mistakes left by regular people and not some big master plan of some terrorist purposely leaving unsuspicious stuffs all around town to monitor our response time and also so that we eventually stop taking it seriously and dont call the authorities on every occasion or even worse, end up like the boy who cried wolf, meaning the authorities eventually stop taking it seriously as well

  7. In these united states there has NEVER, never been a bomb just left in a suitcase at a bus stop. The LPD is paraniod or billing serious overtime. Its outta hand.

  8. I feel like its the same guy calling the cops for all these “unattended bombs” I mean seriously pps please don’t just leaving your garbage bag on the sidewalk. Someone will think its a bomb. Although, the mere fact of an unattended item does seem suspicious I can’t fathom why everyone thinks its an explosive. Everyone has some serious OCD issues and should definitley see someone about that.

  9. To no.12.
The police dept. is NOT paranoid as you have stated. When someone calls in a package they can not just “blow it off” as another left behind item. Know what you are talking about. So there is no overtime expence next time call on of LCSW’ s bomb experts or use their dog.

  10. This is becoming the new trend in Lakewood. We read it in the scoop about 2 or 3 times a week. Just like on Sunday mornings we read about all the houses that were entered over the holiday. Folks make sure you protect yourself easy way lock your doors and keep your eyes open.

  11. #12 – that is not true, the atlanta olympics, there was a back pack bomb left in centenial square. The columbine school shooting had several bombs set as secondary devices when the police entered into the cafeteria. What about the car bomb that failed in Times Square just a year ago. It was the vending cart person who saw something.

    just think before you comment

  12. Lcsw actually just got an explosive detection dog due to the spike in suspicious package calls and members are trained to use the dog, why don’t we call on them to respond right away Insted of waiting for county and shutting down streets?
