JUST IN: Cyclist struck by vehicle in Lakewood, seriously injured [PHOTOS]

A cyclist is in critical condition after being struck by a vehicle in Lakewood this evening.

The accident happened shortly after 8:00 PM at the intersection of Route 70 and New Hampshire Ave.

According to preliminary reports, the cyclist was run over by a vehicle while crossing against the light.

Lakewood police department’s traffic safety division is responding to the scene.

Expect heavy delays and closures in the area for an extended period of time.

  1. Cyclists need to ride with the rules of the road. They cannot ride against traffic or on the sidewalk. Drivers cannot see them when they pop out of the sidewalk to cross streets specially when they are going against traffic. It has happened to me a few times while trying to make a right turn suddenly out of no where a biker is flying across the street making me almost hitting him. At night also they’re like camaflouge when they don’t have lights. It’s a big sakana!!

    • Yes, they must have lights — front and back, as required by law. It is also a great idea to wear a reflector belt as well, as a backup, and in case falls off and is in the road etc.
      I have no idea what happened here, just mentioning for all.
