One person was seriously injured in an accident involving a school bus in Lakewood this morning.

The two-vehicle accident happened shortly after 7:00 AM at the intersection of Cross Street and Massachusetts Avenue, and sent the school bus into a utility pole.

Extrication crews cut one patient out of the car and transported to JSUMC with serious injuries.

Lakewood’s Traffic Safety units and OCPO are investigating the accident.

The area is expected to be shut for an extended period of time.

Please be Mispallel for Dovid ben Mattil, going in for surgery.

  1. In reference to Tehilim, I do not know the name, however, (to: wondering) you can say Tehillim for sure and our wonderful father will apply your beautiful Tehillim to the injured in Lakewood and also to the injured in that terrible accident near Ashdod that happened very recently.
    Thank You
May the Almighty send a speedy and quick recovery to all those people that got injured.

  2. Hi as was mentioned on the hatzahathon. People NEED to focus stop sign. Traffic lights. Traffic guard…..all good but we need to focus. If need help understanding please contact skillful. They have good advice for us. And they can teach you how to focus. Please be safe. Hashem please give a speedy recovery. TYH.

  3. Tell the Cops to start giving tickets and you will save people from injury and death.
Do you want a town with safe driving? Get the cops to do their job.
It’s very shortsighted of those that tell them to stand down, its your choice, some tickets or safety

  4. As per local news reports, the Orthodox population in both Lakewood and the surrounding towns is expected to reach close to 250-300K by 2030. As your community expands, I really wish for your driving culture to change, both school buses and just Orthodox drivers. I do not want to continue to hear such news reports happening in Northern Ocean County and Southern Monmouth towns and just Route 9 which begins in Old Bridge. I also wish for the safety of all the communities!

  5. T, he has successfully undergone one surgery but needs many more so he still needs tehillim. HowellNJNeighbor, in this case, it was 100% the bus driver’s fault as per a witness (she blew through a red light at high speed).

  6. #14 absolutely. It’s getting worse. So many more accidents in lakewood.
Everyone trying to beat the lights, cutting people off, give the school buses a break before there are no drivers. Too many cars on the road. Getting like N.Y.

  7. The bus driver did NOT blow through a red light at high speed. Please don’t spread a false narrative because he is your brother.

  8. @onlooker you have no idea what ur talking about. Eye witness saw what happened and they’ve been in touch with the police. Bus lady was 1000% in the wrong. I will not delve into more details than that.

  9. Just to be clear I was there saw the whole thing from start to finish including giving my statement to LPD. The bus driver ran the light no doubt about it.

  10. What clearly wasn’t seen from the other witness view is that Dovid illegally passed a dump truck by using a turning lane to go around the truck, never slowing down. Because he was too impatient to wait behind the slow dump truck he caused the accident. The bus driver was traveling thru a yellow light.

  11. Witness2 let’s be clear a turn lane does not exist on any side of the intersection regardless of another vehicle in the other lane this man LEGALLY drove straight at a green light and the bus was in the intersection because she tried to make it before the light changed and she most certainly did not succeed.

  12. @witness2 so how does this work? Do you just wake up in the morning and decide on what to lie or speculate on today? Don’t pretend you know what you’re talking about. Besides, your comment doesn’t make any sense. Why would he use a turning lane to get around a dump truck if he was heading to a red light?! (according to you the bus driver was going through a yellow which would mean this guy’s light was red).

  13. Why would I make up lies? I was in the car behind Dovid, I saw the whole thing. He used the right turning lane to pass the fully stopped dump truck because the light was red. The bus had a yellow light which was coming to an end. Dovid saw the light change was about to happen so he never slowed down, he passed the dump truck going full speed, timing the light change. This is very dangerous because often cars are still traveling thru the yellow lights and they turn red during the pass thru. If you are fully stopped at red, you drive defensively and wait for others to complete. David was driving irratically, not properly. Luckily no kids were on the bus! I wish both of them a speedy recovery.

  14. @witness2 ok got it, thx for explaining. And yes I agree luckily no kids were on the bus because a bus driver who goes 40-50 mph and doesn’t care about going through red lights 2-3 seconds late is not someone that should be able to drive kids.

PS. You mention that you were on scene at time of accident, just curious, you don’t have to answer but did you help out in anyway?

  15. Of course I did, I still am. I’ve cooperated with police and inspectors as well so they know the light was yellow. From what I hear the bus driver is highly regarded in the community. She’s been driving the children for 15 years with zero accidents or incidents. She’s loved by the children and the moms, as she’s known all the families for many years. Speaking badly will not work here. We are all aware of how the community drives and the many accidents caused. This is my last reply. May all heal.
