JUST IN: Lawsuit being filed against President Trump

trump inauguration tlsPresident Trump will be facing a lawsuit tomorrow morning.

Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) is bringing a federal lawsuit to stop President Trump from violating the Constitution by illegally receiving payments from foreign governments. The lawsuit will be filed in the Southern District of New York when the court opens at 9 AM on Monday.

The foreign emoluments clause of the Constitution prohibits Trump from receiving anything of value from foreign governments, including foreign government-owned businesses, without the approval of Congress.

“We did not want to get to this point. It was our hope that President Trump would take the necessary steps to avoid violating the Constitution before he took office,” CREW Executive Director Noah Bookbinder said. “He did not. His constitutional violations are immediate and serious, so we were forced to take legal action.”

The statement added, “Since Trump refused to divest from his businesses, he is now getting cash and favors from foreign governments, through guests and events at his hotels, leases in his buildings, and valuable real estate deals abroad. Trump does business with countries like China, India, Indonesia and the Philippines, and now that he is President, his company’s acceptance of any benefits from the governments of those countries violates the Constitution. When Trump the president sits down to negotiate trade deals with these countries, the American people will have no way of knowing whether he will also be thinking about the profits of Trump the businessman.”

“President Trump has made his slogan ‘America First,’” said Bookbinder. “So you would think he would want to strictly follow the Constitution’s foreign emoluments clause, since it was written to ensure our government officials are thinking of Americans first, and not foreign governments.”

  1. Just wondering, didn’t Trump divest of his businesses? I was under the impression that he signed them all off to his sons. What’s this all about? Some anti- Trump scandal again?

  2. Trump never transferred ownership of this businesses to his children. He claims his son’s will be operating them while in office, this is quite different than selling them or putting them into a blind trust. Beginning his first day in office he was violating the law.

  3. Why are you printing such rubbish, if the President was a democrat named Obama these idiots would be celebrating his win and calling anyone who thinks of filing a lawsuit unpatriotic and a racist.

  4. So anyone who follows the letter of the Constitution is an idiot? Even the 2nd ammendment? New York and Florida have not received any paperwork regarding the transfer of ownership for his entities in either state.

  5. “receiving payments from foreign governments” – YOU MEAN LIKE WHEN HILLARY CLINTON RECEIVED MILLIONS FROM OUR ENEMIES IN THE MIDDLE EAST?

  6. Presidents Clinton & Obama were able to do & get away with anything they wanted; with President Trump any little thing is a “lawsuit” because he’s got alout of enemies, but he’s a fighter and I believe that he will be able to lead and do a good job.

  7. @Grown up The clause is only meant for receiving gifts or payments of government services, not for selling a bottle of milk or renting a hotel room.
