JUST IN – “GAME-CHANGER”: Horizon NJ Health Expands Access to CHOP; Move Will Benefit Many Lakewood Families

As of today, October 1, 2024, Horizon NJ Health has a full contract with the renowned Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP), a move welcomed by many local families.

This agreement opens the doors for local families to access world-class pediatric care without the need for extensive travel, providing improved health outcomes for countless children in the region.

For years, CHOP has been recognized as one of the leading pediatric hospitals in the world, renowned for its cutting-edge treatments, top-tier specialists, and a patient-centered approach to care. However, many families in Lakewood and the surrounding communities have faced challenges in accessing this level of care due to insurance limitations. The new full contract between Horizon NJ Health and CHOP removes those barriers, ensuring that children covered by Horizon NJ Health plans can receive the same level of care as those who have had private or alternative insurance options.

This development is particularly significant for families dealing with complex and chronic illnesses, where access to specialized care can make a tremendous difference in a child’s health journey. Whether it’s advanced treatments, second opinions, or ongoing management of chronic conditions, local families now have the opportunity to benefit from CHOP’s expertise.

Chai Lifeline New Jersey, dedicated to supporting local children with serious illnesses and their families, has long recognized the struggles that many families face when seeking specialized medical care. For these families, the ability to access CHOP’s services through Horizon NJ Health represents a monumental shift in the healthcare landscape.

“This partnership is a game-changer for families in our community,” Rabbi Sruli Fried, MSW, director of Chai Lifeline NJ told TLS. “Access to CHOP’s world-class medical care through Horizon NJ Health means that children with serious health challenges will no longer face barriers to getting the best possible treatment. It offers families hope, quality care, and the reassurance that their children are receiving treatment from some of the best pediatric specialists in the country.”

“Chai Lifeline NJ has been at the forefront of advocating for families navigating complex healthcare needs, providing essential services such as case management, transportation to medical appointments, counseling, and financial assistance. The organization understands that access to quality healthcare is about more than just treatment; it’s about ensuring that families feel supported, empowered, and equipped to handle the challenges that come with a child’s serious illness.”
