Just 6 families from 2 large Lakewood schools still keeping non-vaccinated children home

The numbers of non-vaccinated children in Lakewood are dwindling, caving into pressure from schools who took a stance.

TLS spoke with administrators of two of the largest private schools in Lakewood who say they each have just three families who insist on not vaccinating, and are keeping their children home. Each of those schools had approximately 15-20 ‘anti-vaxxer’ families.

“One family keeps calling asking when they can send their child school,” one administrator said.

Earlier this week, TLS reported the Lakewood Cheder and Bais Faiga had sent home approximately 60 children for non-vaccination, and only 20 remained out of school. A number was not available as of today.

As of Wednesday, the number of confirmed cases of Measles in Lakewood remained at 14, with 13 cases under investigation.

  1. B”H! Kudos to the school administrators for their courageous leadership and not caving in to the idle threats of the anti-vaxxers. At this point, these parents don’t even care about vaccines; they just want to show “Nobody’s going to tell ME what to do!” I wonder if that’s their attitude during davening. It’s just very sad for their children, all of whom would just want to get vaccinated and go back to school, that they are subject to the whims of their parents who are fighting their own battle without regard for their children. B”H, this still represents fantastic progress for Lakewood due to our schools doing the responsible thing. Yasher koach!

  2. REBONO SHEL OILAM! Who are we to judge them? They probably had some trauma from it, that’s causing them such a fear of vaccinating. But the schools still have a right not to let in their kids.
My point is, this is NONE OF OUR BUSINESS!
LET THESE PEOPLE DEAL WITH IT PRIVATELY!
Be mechabed them, their also frum ehrliche yidden just like you!

  3. I am really impressed with those who don’t believe in vaccinating and yet stepped up to the plate to do what’s right for the klal during this outbreak and gave the MMR. I am sure that was not easy, but it certainly shows that they care abt others wellness and that’s what klal yisroel’s about! Kol yisroel areivim zeh lazeh!

  4. Not sure where TLS gets its info from???? I know of dozenS of families still home. not sure where you heard about only six! Just shows how “reliable” this site is! Maybe think for a minute if people hold so strongly about this issue that they are willling to keep their children out of school for so long there may be a REAL reason for doing so? Can’t imagine keeping my children out for so long just because I am stubborn.

  5. @shalomk @proud… I’m sorry to say that you are wrong… these people are not part of the “Klal”. I know this sounds shocking, but a member of a Klal does not intentionally do things that puts the rest of the Klal at risk! Now I fully support individual people to make their own decisions for their families, BUT, they have no right to endanger everyone else. If they feel so strongly about their decision, they should start their own “Klal” with like minded people, and not put me and my family at risk. I believe it was Oliver Wendell Holmes that said “your freedom ends where my nose begins”. These same people would never accept preitzus in their school, or people with a vastly different hashkafa, because of the spiritual danger to their children, why do they think they can impose their “belief”” regarding vaccination that is putting all of our children in physical danger?

    • Excellent comment. I agree. I’m putting together a proposal for education and training for anti-vaxxer families. There is ABSOLUTELY NOT ONE SINGLE peer reviewed journal article study linking causation to these vaccines. And yes there have been studies trying to prove this hypothesis. Trying to educate people about this.

  6. Don’t know why this is every ones business I vaccinate my kids but something I always wonder about imagine if it costed the parents 100 dollars per vaccine per kid I don’t think everyone would just vaccinate without blinking it would be a big decision and ppl would look into it I think those that don’t vaccinate looked into and made a decision that’s it’s not worth it they are not trying to show anything to anyone it’s something they decided not to do and don’t want to be forced into it

  7. If one truly believes that vaccines are bad fir children, why would you take what you consider to be a large risk by vaccinating them simply to send them to school?

    • Because they feel it has tiny small risks and that’s why they didn’t do it till now. But now that there is an actual outbreak and they will possibly negatively impact others in a Huge way they are vaccinating in this situation!

  8. I know 2 families that attent small schools (one family is related to me) that r out of school so the 6 fmailies must b only
The ones from the 2 large schools,
This article makes it sound like there r only 6 families total that happen to b attending the 2 large schools

  9. Not sure why “grateful” is even commenting since she apparently doesn’t live in Lakewood. Also, since she doesn’t live in Lakewood, why does she think she knows about how many families are at home in Lakewood? I guesss she must just be another crazy anti-vaxxer who looks for every soapbox to jump on.

    • Maybe TorahTruth was saying that ina positive way? Meaning being them dan lichaf zechus?…like it’s not their fault type cuz s/o brain-washed them..?

  10. @wow there is nothing coarse in what I wrote. As for agressiveness… you bet! When someone puts my family in Sakana, I will be aggressive, I sure hope you would do the same for yours. So this can only mean one of two things. 1) you don’t believe this is a danger to the rest of us or 2) you don’t care about your family. Either answer is disturbing to me and that is the way of Torah and of truth.

  11. can someone PLEASE answer me
    1. so many kids are vaxxing to get back into school, how many of them got sick from vaxxing?
    2. these kids until now where not vaxxed based on very educated research by their parents and by asking Daas Torah- what changed would they feed their kids pig to get them back into school- what happened to all your concerns?
    NOT being mean just asking
