Just 2 Days After Graduating, Lakewood Police K9 Successfully Tracks Missing Person [EXCLUSIVE]

Just two days after graduating K9 school, Lakewood’s newest police dog has already proven itself as a sharp officer.

This morning, Lakewood Police were called in reference to a missing person in the area of MMCSC, and K9 Mellow was immediately dispatched to assist in the search.

Officer Mellow, led by his handler Officer Conrad, immediately began a track, sniffing out the area.

A short time later, Mellow led police to a street several blocks away, just several hundred feet from the where the missing person was. Volunteers and officers entered a public building, where the missing was located.

“This was exactly what we had in mind when we brought on our K-9 units,” Police Chief Greg Meyer told TLS. “In just two days, Mellow has already proven it can save lives and do other great things – it was well worth the time and effort. Officer Conrad and the others involved in the K-9 unit deserve a lot of credit too.”

Mellow is one of three K-9 dogs recently hired by the Department, after many years of relying on K-9 units from other towns.

“Having our own K-9 lets us respond to emergencies in a quick and efficient manner without delay,” Chief Meyer said.

Since its inception, Lakewood’s K-9 Units, have responded to multiple calls of service, including search warrants, drug arrests, missing persons and more.
