  1. What about all the over time it costs us for the public works workers to come in on July 4th to clean up. If we did the fire works on the 4th they would clean up on the 5th and that is not a holiday thus saving us money and getting the fireworks done on the correct day.!!!

  2. as a religious person. This is what I have to say. July 4th commemorates a day that is one of the most significant in religious freedom and allows us the opportunity to practice our religion without harm. Just like I don’t buy matza a day after passover because its. Cheaper and I don’t shake my esrog a day before succos because its cheaper and I don’t even buy tu beshvat baskets a day later because its cheaper. I won’t celebrate independence day a day early! Even if it will save each household a a whopping 33 cents over the year! I’m going to brick or howell to watch my fireworks….bizmano! This is not the thing to be karg on! This is the day that allowed all the elected officials the opportunity to be elected to office. How dare you treat it like garbage for political purposes to say you saved us money. I’m thinking of sending out a letter to all lakewood households asking for a 33 cent donation to cover the costs…oh but the stamp will cost more than that! Anyway if anyone wants to donate a dollar or so please drop it in the municipal building with a note to please treat independence day with respect. Maybe if they get a few thousand of those they will reconsider.

Thank you for a well articulted statement , would any of us celebrate a religious holiday a day before or after just because it saved money
I think not ! some things you should not put a price tag on it is what it is !

  4. What happened to the Lakewood Municipal Band?
That was a Township Tradition for many, many years.
Now we have a DJ. What’s up with that? BYOIPOD next year?
Bean counters inevitably destroy the flowers.

  5. July 4th should be celebrated on its day, as mentioned above! Ull save here a few thousand and spend who knows where $____? It’s a holiday from a country that gave us a FULL RELIGIOUS RIGHT! I don’t think that u should save a few pennies on this holiday, in matter of fact I think u should spend MORE in order to show respect for the U.S. of A. !
P.S. no, I’m not impressed by the savings if compromising on this US holiday !

  6. i work with many people from all walks of life from many towns in NJ and all thier tows are doing fireworks on Sunday night ….. no yeshivas ….. so why the fuss and blaming the religious in Lakewood , i guess hate is hate

  7. I have to ask, what in the world is wrong with you? No one was blaming the religious, nor was hate talked at all.

But respecting ALL religions would be the right thing to do by the whole town. Sunday for some, is a religious day.

Now please stop trying to stir up hate.
