John Franklin: 700 Homes Have Taken Delivery, All Should Have Their Bins Within 3 Weeks

recycling bin with instructions“Everyone should have their big new bins within 3 weeks” DPW Director John Franklin told TLS this morning. Many residents have been calling the DPW to find out when they would be receiving the big new yellow bins. However, they are being distributed by Zone. Currently, Zone 4, approximately 700 homes in the Pine Acres-New Hampshire areas have received them, and are already in use. Zone 2, Princeton, Ridge and surrounding homes, will be receiving them over the next week. All Zones will have them delivered within the next three weeks.

The new 95 Gallon containers, will be a Single-source recycling bin. Which means, you will be able to place all your cans, bottles and newspapers into this one large bin. The project-which has been in the works for a recycling instructionsfew years-was implemented as a cost-saving measure. The fact that it is an extremely large bin, enables the new trucks to pick them up from the road, as they do with the trash bins.

Also, being that the average family will not fill up a full can each week, the trucks will not have as many bins to pick up each week.

I assume they will ask us to place the smaller blue receptacle into the large yellow receptacle on place on the street for recycling
I for one will keep the blue one and use as a flowerpot
I also like them as outdoor chairs

Is someone having a hissy fit? Say it isn’t so! The sunny (pun intended) side of this is you dont have to seperate your recycles and your neighbors (who can’t tie their boxes together) boxes and cans shouldnt end up in your yard. The moral of the story is…You cant make a miserable person happy no matter how much you try to brighten (there it is again) day.

You would be an amazing (pun intended) landscaper.

How in the world are developements that already have no parking on pickup days going to deal with almost double the amount of bins.
This cant work.
I hope whoever got this contract made alot of money, at least someone should get something out of this insanity.

I dont understand why they did not get blue bins, isnt that the universal recycle color?

Terrible color. There’s a reason why the regular garbage bins are a pleasant green color. We should boycott this (or maybe go the Israeli hafgana way- you know what they do to plastic garbage bins).

What is the cost of the bins? Will it cost the DPW more to now sort out the garbage?

First of all the people of this town are very ungrateful, life gets made a

little easier by allowing us to put all of our recycling in a single larger

container and everybody on here and that I speak to complains

because they’re “yellow”. Second, with a little research I found out

that many countries use two barrels for recycling; a “yellow” one – for

glass, plastic and cardboard cartons and a “blue” one for paper only.

In the United States many communities that have switched to “single

stream recycling” have purchased “yellow” rather then blue cans to

distingish that all recyclable materials may be placed in these new

larger cans. Further, I will add that in my own opinion it is probably

less expensive to purchase “yellow” cans as in many communities in

the US trash and recycling is collected by the company WASTE

MANAGEMENT and they issue “yellow” cans for recycling to their

customers. So companies that make the cans probably sell “yellow”

at a lower cost as they already make a large number under contract

for WASTE MANAGEMENT.

And on and on and on. Would you buy a car that gets great gas mileage, favorable consumer ratings, at a very reasonable price, with on star and a gps thrown in— if it were YELLOW???

Waste management says yellow is a nice color. Stop complaining
or you’ll sleep with the fish. Leave the gun, take the cannoli.

This is the most pathetic community in the world. I cannot believe that people are sitting and kvetching about the color and size of bins. For the record, I woke up in the morning and someone had taken my blue garbage can from the side of my house and replaced it neatly with a yellow one, and left a paper with instructions in my door handle clearly explaining everything. It was done professionally and quietly and there is no reason to complain. Now we don’t need to separate anything and its great!

Anyone catch the spelling mistake on top of the can. Then instead of than.

I’m can’t wait for the new cans! I never have enough room in the blue one. My second blue can disappeared a few months ago. The blue cans frequently blew away (with all the contents), leaving the mess in my side yard. Ditto for the cardboard. If you don’t like the color, move it to your backyard during the week.
