JCP&L: Some Service May Not Be Restored Until Tuesday

w_county_line_2Some Jersey Central Power & Light customers may be without electricity as late as Tuesday, the utility has warned. The intensity of the rainstorm Saturday is to blame, JCP&L said today. Spokesman Ron Morano said more than 100 utility poles in JCP&L’s service area were knocked down as a result of the heavy rains and wind gusts in excess of 60 mph. Morano said JCP&l has restored service to about 107,000 customers since yesterday. However, because of the extensive damage to poles and lines, some customers may not have service restored until Tuesday, he said.

Hardest hit by service interruptions are the Brick, Jackson, Colts Neck and Englishtown areas, the utility said.

Dave Thomas of Jackson still had electricity, even though the storm brought down two large trees and several smaller ones in his yard Saturday night.

“We were sitting at home, hearing the rain, then all of a sudden there was heavy rain, heavy winds storming in,” said Thomas, 42. “It just seemed to come out of nowhere.” APP

  1. #2 you need to get a life you have no clue what those men are doing out there those crews are out 24/7 trying to provide light so that hopefully someday you may see your way forward clear w/o fog

  2. I talked to some of the guys on the crews before they got busy and was suprised how many 1 man crews they have because GPU saves money this way. At least our electric bills are low. Oh wait, I just looked, it’s higher then ever. Their job is very dangerous job even when it is not raining.
