[CHART] JCP&L released the following information yesterday evening: Jersey Central Power & Light (JCP&L) continues to make progress, restoring power to 50 percent of 1.2 million customers affected by Hurricane Sandy.
More than 600,000 customers have had power restored in the 96 hours since the passing of the storm. An additional 125,000 are expected to be restored tomorrow.
Some 6,200 professionals, including 3,200 linemen and 1,400 forestry workers, are focused on restoring power to the remaining customers.
Crews have been active in all regions of the JCP&L service territory, including major work in Monmouth, Morris, and Ocean counties. In Warren County, JCP&L forestry crews were assisted by a convoy from the National Guard to cut and remove trees from roads.
Most of the remaining customers will be restored by Wednesday, November 7. Customers in harder-hit areas can expect to be restored throughout the following week. In some areas where roads, infrastructure, homes and businesses were destroyed, restoration is impossible.
Crews have repaired transmission lines that feed local substations. Aerial patrols continue to assess damage. Priorities continue to be restoring power to key locations, including police and fire departments, water and sewage treatment plants, hospitals, schools, and fueling stations.
“Hurricane Sandy destroyed nearly all of JCP&L’s electric circuits. Thousands of people continue working day and night to restore power and we appreciate our customers’ patience,” said Don Lynch, President of JCP&L. “Everyone at JCP&L understands the hardships of extended power outages. Our growing army of restoration crews, the largest in our history, is hard at work to bring power back both quickly and safely.”
Hurricane Sandy caused widespread destruction in the JCP&L service area. More than 600 utility poles have been damaged and replaced. More than 21,000 trees have been cut and already removed from JCP&L equipment since the hurricane struck New Jersey on Monday. Crews are replacing approximately 2,700 sections of wire and 200 transformers.
Go to https://www.firstenergycorp.com/content/customer/outages_help/Sandy/njoutagescounty.html for a county-by-county list outlining the number of JCP&L customers who remain without power, how many have been restored, and how many were affected by power outages from Hurricane Sandy.
As debris from the storm is being cleared, customers are cautioned never to touch downed lines. Customers should always assume downed wires are carrying electricity and are reminded to keep children and pets away from them. Downed wires should be reported immediately to your electric company or local police or fire department. Customers should never try to remove trees or limbs from power lines because they could conduct electricity. They should wait for emergency services or utility crews to arrive.
To report an outage, customers should call 1-888-LIGHTSS (1-888-544-4877) – it’s the fastest way to begin the restoration process. Customers are reminded that even if they do not see crews working in their neighborhood, work could be under way at a nearby substation or other location that serves the neighborhood. The priority for restoration starts with emergency services, including hospitals, police, fire and first aid. Priority is also given to circuits serving the largest number of customers, followed by restoration of service to individual homes. TLS.
I live in Monmouth av area closer to county line rd. you will see over 200 families still without power. There are 2 trees stil down on Hudson between Washington and Lexington aves, no feedback from jcp&l when they will be taken care of and wires fixed. Transformer on Hudson & Lexington still smashed, tree was taken away but no power. By wednesday jcp&l told me everything will be fixed. We see no trucks working in our area.
Our mayor is no where to be seen and won’t take calls. At least be responsive as the lead man on restoration of power . We know you are not jcp&l but at least take our calls please.
I am sorry you don’t deserve our vote this time around
when is redoak getting we have been in the dark since monday!!!!
i think everyone living in upstairs or basement in Red Oak White Oak must call jcp&l today!! If everyone calls it will be a lot of people calling from within the same area and maybe they will take our area more seriously!!! We lost our power first and seem to be the last ones to be restored!!
Whisky warms you up quite well. Most of Raintree also has no power since Monday, and the rest of them joined the darkness due to the Brook Road fire…
If anyone got their power back and has a spare generator they would be willing to lend, pls call me @ 516-448-4218 (i’m in lakewood). I will take full responsibility.
Although many remain without power, I am impressed (if the numbers are true) that Ocean County showing the highest number of Affected customers in the state losing power at 274,176 also has one of the highest percentage restored 60%. It has more than double the percentage restored in Monmouth which has the closest number of affected customers. There is no breakdown as to what perentage is unrepairable due to major infrastructure cutoff. If JCP&L would have enough linemen on salary doing nothing all year to be able to repair downed lines in storms, our electric rates would be a lot more expensive. It is quite possible that despite all the pain of many not having electricity, that the restoration of service is being performed at a reasonable level with all the additional staff brought in from out of state.
We can all be nice on the phone when we call in to report remaining outages. Being rude on the phone will not put us ahead in line for repairs. Reporting the quantity of remaining outages is most important.
Ridge also lost power monday noon and still without power
red oak and white oak call and keep on calling. we were firrst off and still not on. they say we need repair work. so come out and repair.
i just had a baby and i live in red oak & i told my wife were not kimpeting by your parents, and boy was i wrong, im sitting now angemeyert ve a shtikle herring by my shvigger for the unforseeble future !!! mentch tracht and gut lacht….
I think Lakewood police still runs only a generator! Where is the priority for police or the senior citizens building on 6th x clifton old people without heat!
I heard that ridge, white oak, red oak area were affected by all the downed trees and wires in Rockefeller park. I’m not sure if you’ve seen what’s going on in the park but it’s a mess and it will take them a while to clear all the trees so they are giving priority to the places they can fix faster. I’m so sorry you have to deal with this 🙁
Agree with #2
It is below 50 degrees in my house. They haven’t even begun working on our downed cables, located Ridge & New Hampshire!
Outrages!!!!
Why don’t you fix your own power if all you can do is complain. Sure, it is cold and uncomfortable but at least you still have someplace to live. Why don’t you put your energy into helping those who lost everything, house, furniture, clothes instead of complaining that you are uncomfortable. I opened my house to two homeless families who lost everything. My friend called me crying because she has not had power since Monday either. She as two sons with her. And where is her husband? Out repairing the JCP&L lines 18 hours a day all through the night so everyone else has power. So, stop your comp, signing. There are so many people so much worse off than you
just in time for the Nor’easter heading this way!
