A blog following the developments of Jacob Ostreicher – apparently run by friends – released the following information this afternoon regarding today’s hearing in Bolivia: 8:00AM – Santa Cruz, Bolivia — Jacob Ostreicher was hauled out of Palmasola prison to be taken to the Courthouse for his hearing which was scheduled to take place at 11:00AM. This would be Jacob’s 26th hearing.
When Jacob got to the courthouse he was taken to a holding cell with all other prisoners where he had to wait until his hearing starts.
11:00 he was taken up to his courtroom where he had to wait since the judge was not ready. Present at the time, in the courtroom, was Congressman Chris Smith along with local human rights activists and more than seventy personal of the local media.
12:00 the judge showed up and the Minister of Government said it is too late to start the hearing since lunch break starts at 1:00. A local human rights activist started yelling at the judge that this hearing cannot be postponed due to Jacob’s fragile state of health. Jacob gave jobs to hundreds of unemployed Bolivians and he does not deserve this treatment. The judge listened and said that the hearing will be postponed for 3:30PM. The judge told Jacob that he can stay in the courthouse until his scheduled hearing takes place. Regardless, Jacob was grabbed by the prison guards and was forced onto the bus back to prison.
Jacob is now on the bus going back to the courthouse for the 3:30 hearing.
Stay tuned for more updates.
