Jackson Township Mayor Jennifer Kuhn and the township council are reminding residents to move vehicles and garbage cans off township streets ahead of a significant winter storm expected to impact the area from late Friday afternoon through Saturday morning.
Current forecasts project up to seven inches of snow, with snowfall beginning late Friday afternoon and intensifying overnight. In preparation, Township Public Works crews will begin salt-spreading and brining operations Friday afternoon. A full fleet of snowplows will be deployed early Saturday morning as conditions warrant. Between Township DPW and private contractors, approximately 20 vehicles are preparing roadways ahead of the storm.
Under township ordinance, vehicles who do not comply could be towed and owners fined for not complying during snow emergencies.
Township officials say keeping roadways clear is essential to ensuring safe and efficient snow removal operations.
“Clearing our streets of parked vehicles is one of the most important ways residents can help us keep Jackson safe during a storm,” said Council President Mordechai Burnstein. “Our crews will be working through the storm, but they can only do their jobs effectively if roadways are clear. We’re asking for everyone’s cooperation so plows and salters can move quickly and safely.”
Burnstein noted that during the first storm last week, hundreds of vehicles and garbage cans remained in the streets, significantly hindering plowing and salting efforts and slowing response times.
“They all need to be removed,” Burnstein said. “This is not only about courtesy—it is the law during a declared snow emergency, and all residents must comply.”
Council President Burnstein also urged residents who observe the Sabbath to move vehicles and remove garbage cans from roadways before sunset on Friday to ensure full compliance throughout the storm.
Residents are encouraged to park vehicles in driveways prior to the storm, secure garbage and recycling containers, and avoid unnecessary travel during periods of heavy snowfall. Clear roadways allow snowplows, emergency responders, and other critical vehicles to operate efficiently and safely.
Jackson Township will continue to monitor weather conditions and provide updates as needed. Residents are reminded to drive cautiously, allow extra travel time, and follow all posted advisories.

Please make sure you don’t forget us little cul-de-sacs around your township.
We were lightly skimmed the last snow storm. (Very late Sunday night) It was incredibly difficult to drive & everyone was skidding on Monday and Tuesday.
