The Jackson Township Council is pleased to share an update on this year’s leaf collection efforts and to reassure residents that our Department of Public Works (DPW) is working diligently to keep the community clean and prepared for the winter season.
DPW crews have officially completed the first round of leaf collection in Zone 2 and are already approximately 50% finished with Zone 4.
We recognize that many residents have noted leaves still remaining on trees, and that early-November collection may feel premature. However, beginning the process at this time is essential. With a township as large as ours, it requires a minimum of eight weeks to complete a single full pass. Starting early November ensures that all zones receive attention before winter weather sets in.
To maintain fairness across the township, the collection schedule is rotated annually. If your zone is early in the schedule this year, it will be placed later in the order next year.
We also want to remind residents that after the first full township-wide pass is completed, DPW crews will make a second pass in the same order, weather permitting.
If there is no snow on the ground, this additional round will be completed efficiently.
If snow is present, operations will be temporarily delayed until conditions are safe and the snow has melted.
Jackson Township Department of Public Works Superintendent Shawn Bolinksy said the DPW crews may also be ahead of schedule in some areas, and that residents should be prepared, but not alarmed if they see work crews in their neighborhood ahead of their scheduled week.
“Do not be alarmed if you see crews working in zones ahead of schedule. For example, we aren’t set to begin zone 5 and 1 until November 24th, but my goal is to be ahead of schedule,” Bolinksy said. “Crews that work ahead will start over at the advertised date.”
Each day, 6–7 dedicated DPW crews are deployed—depending on staffing and scheduled time off—to ensure leaf collection moves forward steadily and safely.
Jackson Council President Mordechai Burnstein thanked Mr. Bolinksy for the great start on the new season.
“The Township Council extends our sincere appreciation for your patience and cooperation throughout this process. Our teams are working hard to ensure the community is well-maintained as we prepare for the winter months ahead,” Burnstein said.
