The Jackson Township Landlord Registry is a public document that tracks and records all registered landlords and rental homes in the township. Today, Mayor Jennifer L. Kuhn and the Jackson Township Council are taking the next step by putting the database online for the public to view easily.

Previously, residents had to request the document under the Open Public Records Act (OPRA).

The idea was suggested by Councilman Elect Chris Pollak, according to Council President Mordechai Burnstein.

“In my meetings and conversations with newly elected Councilman Chris Pollak, one of his concerns was access to public records such as the landlord database,” said Council President Burnstein.

Burnstein then worked with the mayor’s office and township officials to see how it could be done quickly and be easily accessible to the public.

After meeting with Mayor Kuhn and the administration, the mayor agreed.

“This is something we need to do immediately,” she told Burnstein.

Residents can then report violations to the code enforcement department for investigation.

“Illegal rentals are a problem our town is working hard to enforce and bring these homes into compliance,” said Burnstein. “Our new Bureau of Housing Rentals opens officially in January, and it will be tasked with enforcing inspections, fines, penalties, and registration fees.”

“I hope that we can continue this important work together, improving Jackson’s enforcement of code violations, landlord registry, and other quality of life issues affecting residents,” Burnstein said.

“My administration and the entire Jackson council are all on the same page when it comes to illegal rentals, and I look forward to hearing their ideas on how we can improve the entire process,” said Mayor Kuhn. “This is just one step of a bigger plan we started working on over a year ago. The old ways of the previous mayor and council were not working. I am confident that our new Bureau of Housing Rentals and empowering our residents with quick access to the landlord registry will help everyone improve the quality of life in their neighborhoods and across Jackson.”

Mayor Kuhn said the online registry document will be updated once a week.
