If you see Jackson police officers with long beards, it does not necessarily mean they’re becoming Yeshivish.
This November, members of the Jackson Police Department are trading their clean-shaven looks for a cause, participating in No-Shave November to raise awareness and funds for men’s cancer research and services through the Centra State Healthcare Foundation.
Throughout the month, officers are letting their facial hair grow while encouraging the community to join in supporting cancer-related causes. The initiative highlights the importance of self-exams, screenings, and early detection, while also providing a fun and visible way for first responders to show solidarity with those affected by cancer.
Police Chief Matthew Kunz expressed his support for the program, saying, “Our officers are proud to support this initiative. It’s a small way we can bring attention to a very serious issue and encourage everyone to take action for their health.”
The department credits Sgt. Keith Uricks for coordinating the effort. In a statement, the department said, “This fundraiser is specifically for men’s cancer research and services and Centra State Hospital. Our agency puts forth donations from its members to grow and give for this charity. We are hopeful, with all of the positive feedback we have received, that we will be able to continue to give and grow for this charity while increasing our donation amount for months to come.”
Last year, the Jackson Police Department raised the most money among participating agencies, and officers hope to repeat that success in 2025.
