Jackson mother arrested for leaving child in hot vehicle

A Jackson mother was arrested after leaving her child in a hot vehicle, police said.

At approximately 6:00 PM on Friday, officers responded to Bennetts Mills Plaza located on West County Line Road on the report of a 2-year-old child who had been left unattended in a parked vehicle in the heat.

Officers located the vehicle and the 28-year-old driver who was identified as the child’s mother.

“The child was observed to be exhibiting symptoms of being left in a hot vehicle and First Aid responded to check the child as the 28-year-old claimed to have just gone into a store for 5 minutes, leaving the child in the car because she did not have a mask for the child to wear,” police said.

The investigation resulted in the mother being arrested and charged with 2nd degree endangering the welfare of a child, failure to secure the child properly in a child seat and driving with an expired license. DCPP was contacted and the child was turned over to a family member.

She was processed and lodged in the Ocean County Jail.

  1. I don’t think she had criminal intent. She does need an education though – Mandatory child care lessons.

Jail is for criminals not stupid people.

  2. Baruch Hashem that the child was safe.

The car would be dangerous even after 5-10 minutes. And even if the law for masks is 2 yrs old, i’m sure people in the store would understand.

I feel for the mother, because not having a proper car seat or a license means she probably can’t afford everything she will go through for this. Hopefully they will help her and she will learn from this. No mother deserves to lose a child, no matter how big of a mistake they made.
