Jackson Mayor Reina, Councilwoman Kuhn Work With Police To Ensure The Safety of Township School Students

Following numerous complaints by Jackson Township residents regarding bus stops on dangerous roadways, Mayor Mike Reina, Councilwoman Jen Kuhn and a Jackson Police officer personally visited some of the bus stops in question.

Following their visit, police wrote a report containing several recommendations, including suggesting that the Board of Education add “numerous bus stops” as well as new “no parking” ordinances to help deal with overcrowding on narrow streets.

“I observed numerous vehicles parked on both sides of the street closest to the intersection of South New Prospect Road,” the police report states.

“It was impossible to have vehicles drive down this roadway at this location because of the vehicles parked on both sides of the street,” the report continued.

The report also pointed out that bus stop with large amounts of children on the main streets have been causing traffic to back up, which also creates a safety hazard.

“There is also the issue of emergency vehicles and other buses not being able to get down these aforementioned roadways because of the vehicles parked on both sides. The traffic on the main roadways is also backing up because of the duration of these bus stops, as numerous kids are being picked up at these same locations,” the report noted.

“The safety of all our residents is our number one priority and we will do all we can to ensure that all residents can be transported to school in a safe manner,” Mayor Reina told TLS.

It is now up to the Jackson Board of Education to decide whether they want to incorporate the suggested changes.
