If you’re like most frum families, tuition eats a big part of your budget. The good news is, United Education for New Jersey (UENJ) is on a mission to change that. Formed by community activists, UENJ is working tirelessly to secure more private school funding for our children. Following the success of other groups in states like Florida and Philadelphia, they aim to lobby for more scholarships that will give tremendous tuition relief to families in the Lakewood community and beyond.
“Our mission is simple. We want to alleviate the financial burden of tuition for our community,” Katie Katz, a dedicated member of UENJ shares. “We’re not just talking about a few dollars; we’re talking about thousands of dollars per child, per year. That’s life-changing.”
The deadline for voter registration is just around the corner, and UENJ wants you to understand the immense power your vote holds. Gershy Kesirer, another advocate of UENJ, emphasizes: “We have at least 70,000 eligible voters in our community. If everyone makes an effort to vote, we will become an unignorable voice.”
“We’ve seen other communities achieve remarkable results by organizing and voting together,” Ben Hutt, a passionate UENJ supporter explains. “Our neighbors in Florida and Philadelphia have successfully secured scholarships of approximately 8k per child. That’s a big deal for Jewish families and it’s time for us to do the same.”
What’s more, it goes even further than that.
In contact with advocates like Dr. Allan Jacob who spearheaded the efforts in Florida, we understand that more funding means more for the entire educational system.
“When you have that kind of money in a community, it changes everything,” Jacob shares.
“Not only can schools pay teachers on time and operate more smoothly, they can focus on building new infrastructure and making educational improvements. It creates a more competitive educational environment, with schools constantly improving, new schools opening, and parents having more educational options than ever before.”
And, the key to success lies in unity.
Rabbi Yosef Heinemann, a prominent figure of UENJ stresses, “As Jews, we all know that achdus is our power. A united tzibur is one that sees results.”
Your vote is not just a responsibility; it’s a direct pathway to making a difference in the lives of your family and our community. With the voter registration deadline just a week away, now is the time to act.
Tuition costs may seem insurmountable, but UENJ is proving change is possible. Register to vote and be part of the change that can bring substantial relief to our families. Together, we will make it happen.
