Is it time to concede that Donald Trump is likely to win the GOP nomination?

trumpOne of the more unusual aspects of Donald Trump’s three-plus months at the top of the Republican presidential field is that to so many, myself included, it still seems like it’s only temporary. A number of people who spend a lot of time looking at the numbers have, since he took the lead in July, written about the various reasons why his lead would be temporary — again, myself included. People who rely on poll data were saying, in some sense, “I’m going with the numbers in my gut.”

But the real numbers, including those in a new Washington Post-ABC News poll, support the idea that Trump will continue to lead and that he could win the nomination.

There’s the top-line number, of course, which shows Trump with a lead over the rest of the field. Nearly a third of Republican voters pick Trump as their candidate, followed by 22 percent who choose Ben Carson. As we noted last week, those two share a base of support, meaning that if one were to drop out, the other could and probably would pick up much of his support. In other words: Trump has some room to grow. Read more in WashingtonPost.

  1. While we concede that DT will be the GOP candidate, we must also concede that in an election year that the GOP were going to easily win, Hillary / Democratic party will win the election thanks to a nut case named Donald Trump.

  2. Think about,I at least gained some money back I lost under Bush, are you set to loose it again or,to busyjust buying a candidate that will do whatever you people want

  3. to concerwhned says How did you gain money back the you lost under Bush. The average househould income is down an inflation adjusted 5% since Obama became president, and income taxes are up. All this while still tripling the deficit amongst the greatest amount ever collected by the IRS.

  4. There is no way in the world that the Donald is going to win the nomination. Once the candidate field gets smaller all those voting for the other candidates will gravitate to the center Republican that’s left.

  5. Anything can happen in between now and the primaries. I strongly feel that Donald Trump will NOT be the Republican nominee.
The guy is a loose canon; no filter whatsoever. He may appear attractive as a candidate, but he would not make America great in any way.

  6. Actually, Trump is smart enough not to go all the way for the nomination. He will pull out when he’s leading and will become a major republican power broker. Dont think he’s really interested in the presidency…

  7. I hope this guy is wrong. If Trump wins , its trouble. He hgas no idea how to govern, set policy, or negotiate with foreign diplomats. He has no foreign policy, period. The other problem, as noted previously, if Trump wins, there’s no way he beats Hillary. Time to move to New Zealand.
