Is it proper for girls to go to a seminary in Eretz Yisroel?

Rav Avigdor Miller:

Q: Is it proper for girls to go to a seminary in Eretz Yisroel?

A: Now I don’t want to take sides in this, but I want to tell you – there are very good seminaries in America.

I don’t want to say you shouldn’t go, but I know that in America excellent people have developed.  Not only in yiras Shamayim, but yedios too. And they’re teachers today.  They’re prominent teachers. And they gained all their knowledge in America.

And therefore, the American Torah institutions offer not only for boys excellent opportunities to become a gadol ba’Torah right here – right here! – but the girls can also gain all the things they need, right here in America.

    • Wow! What a lack of derech eretz you have! To speak so disrespectfully about a gadol’s opinion.
You should visit his kever and ask mechila.

    • When I was in shiduchim i said I only want a girl that went to seminary in Israel, for many reasons I thought it was necessary, after a bunch a girls later I dated BH I got married & my wife did not go to seminary in Israel & BH she’s responsible & independent and all the stuff I thought it was necessary, it was all fluff in my head that I inmanganed

  1. Always as your Rabbi. But perhaps mentioned Rabbi Miller’s comment when asking.

Rabbi Miller’s tapes were asking in a public forum and his answers were directed generally to the overall khal.

    • Not necessary to mention Rabbi Avigdor Miller A”H if you’re seeking the opinion of another Rav since you know where he stands about sending 👧 to eretz Yisroel. I think your Rav would feel invalidated that way.

  2. Food for Thought:
Avoid United Airlines, lately there are too many issues with them. Just google ” United airlines” and you will see the details.

    • I did what you suggested, here are the top headlines:

“United Airlines Pilot On Vacation In Maui Volunteers To Fly Plane To Mainland”

“Reporter shamed by United Airlines staff after refusing to move for ultra-Orthodox men” (In other words United employee sided with the Frum guy)

“LEMON ROASTED CHICKEN IN UNITED AIRLINES FIRST CLASS”

Hmmm not seeing exactly what you are referring to…

  3. If you are so worried about keeping these young adults sheltered then you clearly aren’t confident they were raised properly with real Torah values and a love for hashem. Plain and simple. If you doubt them that’s a reflection of your failure’s. You raise the next generation with such strong expectations, doubt them and then wonder why they doubt themselves.

  4. It’s sickening that these same kids you are worried about will be pushed into shidduchim that same year or immediately after and most will have babies within a year or 2 after that, So they can become parents and lead the next generation but cannot be trusted in yeshivos alone for a zman a few months prior?

  5. America today is not what it was 30 years ago. The Gashmiyus and standard of living has risen tremendously. Girls and Bochurim gain a deeper appreciation Limud Torah by living a year amongst Yidden who live on a high level of Ruchinyus hard to achieve in America and bring back that inspiration in their future homes of Torah. Many also keep in touch with Yerushalmi Kollel families later on and retain their connection to Eretz Yisroel. If a girl or boy doesn’t need that inspiration then it is worthy of consideration.
