IRS: Taxpayers Get 3-Day Filing Extension

No, it’s not a long-lost refund, but you will have an extra three days to file your tax returns this year. “Taxpayers will have until Monday, April 18, to file their 2010 tax returns and pay any tax due because Emancipation Day, a holiday observed in the District of Columbia, falls this year on Friday, April 15,” said IRS spokesman Gregg Semanick, who works out of the agency’s office in Mountainside.

The D.C. holiday impacts tax deadlines in the same way as federal holidays, granting taxpayers extra time, he said. Read more in Star Ledger.
