It’s the circus that just won’t end.
Sources close to decision-makers in Lakewood Township tell TLS that the Shared Services Agreement between the Township and the Board of Education is off.
“After pre-approving the deal, they realized that they had bitten off more than they can chew,” the source told TLS.
The attorney for the BOE, Michael Inzelbuch, responding to the source, told TLS that he is optimistic that the busing crisis can still be resolved in time. “All will be ok with G-d’s help. The world wasn’t created in one day,” said Inzelbuch.
“Whether politically correct or not, all kids have to be helped – Jose, Jamar, Jennifer, Yaakov and Chris. And they will be, wherever I am, despite threats,” continued Inzelbuch. “The District, staff and students have awoken and will not trade away legal obligations whether people vote or not.”
TLS then reached out to Mayor Ray Coles to hear from him why the Shared Services Agreement fell through. Coles said that the agreement had not been scrapped and could still ultimately happen, and that nothing had changed since Thursday when the Township pre-approved the Shared Services Agreement. But Mayor Coles said that following discussions, it became clear that the Board of Education would be able to do the exact same thing that the Shared Services Agreement would accomplish without the Township’s involvement. At the end of the day, the Township being involved creates an unnecessary bureaucratic middleman. Mayor Coles says that the Township is still willing to hold discussions with the BOE and to assist in any way possible.
There are obviously conflicting stories here over whether the Shared Services Agreement will happen or not.

Don’t throw us under the bus Mr. Mayor. Lakewood cannot afford to pay millions in bussing costs. As soon as you take responsibility the state will have no reason to pick up the tab.

why can’t every child’s aid in leiu go straight to the school, and the school deal directly with the bus company for its runs? That would ensure every dollar goes to bus route and not to pay all the extra salaries at LSTA or the township if they take over bussing.
To hi. If the schools have to deal with it they may need to hire another secretary. Have you watched How busy a school office is? They don’t have time or manpower to start dealing with that also.
